Mentors

To facilitate community-based education, students find mentors in their home communities who agree to work with them on a particular individualized course of study. Students locate mentors who are approved by their core faculty members and who also meet the Program's criteria: usually a minimum of a master's degree and, preferably, teaching experience at the college level. Interested mentors are often easily found in universities and community colleges, at local elementary and high schools, and in businesses and other professional fields. The ADP office can assist students in finding mentors in their communities.

The student-mentor relationship is different from the traditional student-teacher relationship. Students are expected to direct their own learning using mentors as resources and guides. Both students and mentors bring much experience to this learning relationship; they often leave the relationship having experienced a mutual learning process. Finding mentors also provides students with a valuable network of professionals in their field of study. Often, these connections lead to internships, recommendations, and jobs. Students normally take no more than three courses with any one mentor. Mentors are paid a stipend for working with ADP students.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID

Federal and Institutional Grants

Grants are need-based and do not have to be repaid. Students are automatically considered for federal and Prescott College need-based grant funds by completing a FAFSA.

PFAP
PFAP (Private Postsecondary Financial Assistance Program) If you have or will receive an Associate's degree from a public Arizona community college and plan to attend Prescott College to pursue a Bachelor's degree, you may be eligible to apply for this program. The Arizona PFAP provides grants to qualified students of $750 per term for up to 4 terms. Students must be enrolled full-time to receive a PFAP grant. PFAP applications may be found on our website at http://www.prescott.edu/finaid/funding_scholarships.html.

PEG (Postsecondary Education Grant)
If you meet the following criteria, you may be eligible for the Postsecondary Education Grant: graduated from an Arizona high school or completed grade 12 in home school program or obtained a GED; enrolled at least half-time at Prescott College; a current resident of Arizona and a resident for the past 5 years; completed a FAFSA; citizen of the United States or lawfully present in the United States. The grant for qualified full-time students is up to $2,000 per year for up to 4 years. To apply, contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.

Prescott College Adult Degree Program Grants
Prescott College offers need-based grants to students who establish need based on the results of the FAFSA.

Federal SMART Grant

The Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant is awarded to some juniors and seniors pursuing a degree in one of the eligible life or physical sciences or multi-disciplinary studies offered at Prescott College who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA in classes required for their major. Full-time enrollment and US citizenship is also required to be eligible. Students who are eligible for the SMART grant are encouraged to request grades from Prescott College due to the 3.0 minimum GPA requirement set by the Department of Education.

Federal Pell Grants

Pell Grants are awarded to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s or professional degree. Eligibility is determined by the U.S. Department of Education and is based on information you provide on the FAFSA. How much you receive depends on your Expected Family Contribution (EFC), Cost of Attendance and the number of credit hours for which you are enrolled. You may not receive Pell Grant funds from more than one school at a time.

Federal SEOG Grant

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants are awarded to undergraduates with priority given to students with the lowest federally calculated EFC.

Federal LEAP Grant

Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership Grants are awarded to undergraduate Arizona residents with high need. Awarding is based on availability of funds.
