The Co-Editors, Terril Shorb and Yvette Schnoeker-Shorb, welcome you to the Sustainabe Ways website. This year, 2008, marks the tenth anniversary of the founding of the Sustainable Community Development program and its well-known Butterfly curriculum. Communication among members of Prescott College’s
Sustainable Community Development Program and the broader sustainability
movement is important, as indicated in the Fourth
Realm of that
Butterfly Curriculum. We like to think that the newsletter is one way to support that communication.
One of the ways we can share our findings in sustainable
thought and
practice is to contribute “field reports” from our respective
community experiences to our newsletter, Sustainable Ways. This publication
appears occasionally and includes articles, interviews with leading lights
in the fields of sustainability, reflective essays, poetry, and photography
that illuminate aspects of community making or strengthening through
sustainable perspectives and practices.
The Spring 2007 and Summer 2005 issues are available as downloadable PDFs directly below the Autumn 2004 issue of Sustainable Ways, which is available in both HTML and PDF format. . The Sustainable Ways editorial team will announce, from time to time, the theme and date of a future issue for which contributions will be accepted. If you have ideas for
future themes, please contact Terril L. Shorb and Yvette A. Schnoeker-Shorb,
co-editors of Sustainable Ways. Ideas may arise from projects
relevant to creating more sustainable communities, particularly
within
the human-nature interface. (Please see the First
Realm of the Butterfly
Curriculum on this website.) Once a theme is announced and you are invited to submit written pieces, please know that writing styles should be reader-friendly,
and, where appropriate, specific contact information should be included
for readers
who may want to inquire further about specific projects. Other kinds
of contributions may include reviews of books or other resources that present
some authentic aspect of sustainability, particularly environmental sustainability. Poems, photographs, artwork,
or
other forms of creativity are also encouraged. Maximum length for written
materials is 750 words.
Please submit
inquiries via email or
to the address below. Thank you for
your interest in creating a more sustainable world.
