Whether you want to attend classes full-time
in Prescott, complete an undergraduate degree from your home community,
earn a graduate degree, or obtain teacher certification as a post-degree student you can prepare for teacher certification
through our program.
Teacher Education is Prescott
College's most popular area of study. Each year, approximately 100
students obtain Arizona state certification through our state approved
teacher education programs. The teacher education program is approved
by the Arizona State Board of Education.
Which program is for you?
Students who have already earned an undergraduate degree
can complete a post-baccalaureate program in Elementary Education, Secondary Education,
Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, or Special Education in Mental Retardation, Learning Disability, or Serious Emotional Disability
through the Adult Degree Program
and apply for teacher certification through their state's department
of education. Students can also pursue a master's degree in education
through the Master of Arts Program.
A "fast track" option allows students to complete requirements
for certification while pursuing the graduate degree. Students in
these programs remain in their home communities and do their coursework
through independent study. Both programs have limited residency
requirements.
Students who have not yet earned
an undergraduate degree can complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Elementary Education or Secondary Education through either our Resident
Degree Program (RDP) or our Adult Degree
Program (ADP). Adult Degree Program students can also complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education or Special Education in Mental Retardation, Learning Disabled, or Serious Emotional Disability. (In the Resident Degree Program, students live and
study in Prescott, while the Adult Degree Program allows students to
complete their degree or certification programs from their home communities, while working
and maintaining a family life.) Teacher education students may benefit greatly from our K-12 Partnerships.
Teacher Certification Requirements
Teacher Certification and Professional Licensure Disclaimer
Colleges and universities cannot issue teaching certificates or behavioral health licenses. Certification and licensure requirements vary among all states, and applicants should address questions about any specific state requirements to that individual state's professional certification/licensure agency. It is the candidate’s responsibility to initiate any and all applications for professional credentials or licensure. Candidates who plan to seek teacher certification or professional licensure in states other than Arizona are responsible for knowledge of the licensure requirements of those states.

Secondary, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, or Special Education in Mental Retardation, Learning Disability, or Serious Emotional Disability.
