ADP & MAP Early Childhood Education Certification Requirements |

Early Childhood Educ. Cert. Requirements (ADP quarter credits/MAP semester credits)
• Critical Issues and Application: Foundations of Early Childhood Education (6 quarter credits- ADP)
• Foundations of Early Childhood Education (4 semester credits- MAP)
• Child Growth and Development (4 quarter/3 semester credits)
• Social and Emotional Development (4 quarter/3 semester credits)
• Early Language and Literacy (4 quarter/3 semester credits)
• Educating for the Future: Multicultural and Environmental Issues (5 quarter/3 semester credits)
• Curriculum Development and Implementation (4 quarter/3 semester credits)
• Parent, Family, School, and Community (4 quarter/3 semester credits)
• ECE Instructional Techniques and Methodologies (4 quarter/3 semester credits)
• The Exceptional Child and Special Education Processes (4 quarter/3 semester credits)
• Health, Safety, and Nutrition (3 quarter/3 semester credits)
• Assessment and Evaluation (4 quarter/3 semester credits)
• Child Guidance and Classroom Management (4 quarter/3 semester credits)
• Characteristics and Practices in a Young Child’s Behavior (4 quarter/3 semester credits)
• Competency-Based Learning (1 quarter credit- ADP only)
• Student Teaching (in 2 of 3 required age groups) (12 quarter/9 semester credits)
• AEPA Professional Knowledge exam (or appropriate state exam)
• AEPA Content Knowledge exam (or appropriate state exam)
• Structured English Immersion (SEI): an Arizona State Board-approved course or training (between August 2006 and July 2009, 45 hours / 3 semester credits, after July 2009, 90 hours / 6 semester credits) Required for all students regardless of residency.
The Arizona Department of Education also requires:
- Arizona Constitution - Department of Ed. exam, or equivalent course (within one year of initial teacher certification if teaching Social Studies/History/Government; within three years of initial teacher certification if not teaching Social Studies/ History/Government)
- U.S. Constitution - Department of Ed. exam, or equivalent course (within one year of initial teacher certification if teaching Social Studies/History/Government; within three years of initial teacher certification if not teaching Social Studies/ History/Government)
