Elementary Certification Requirements (RDP)
In order for Prescott College to issue an Institutional Recommendation for teacher certification in Arizona, the following must be completed:
• Foundations of Education (6 quarter credits)
• Learning Theories (6 quarter credits)
• Curriculum Theory and Application (6 quarter credits)
• Multicultural Education and Social Justice (6 quarter credits) OR
Rethinking Our Classrooms: Race, Power and Identity in Education (6 quarter credits)
• Environmental issues course (actual course decided by student and advisor) (6 quarter credits)
• Reading: Methods and Practice (4 quarter credits)
• Language Arts: Methods and Practice (5 quarter credits)
• Social Science: Methods and Practice (5 quarter credits)
• Science: Methods and Practice (5 quarter credits)
• Math: Methods and Practice (5 quarter credits)
• Authentic Assessment (6 quarter credits)
• Introduction to Special Education (6 quarter credits)
• Creating and Managing Learning Communities (6 quarter credits)
• Student Teaching (12 quarter credits)
• AEPA Professional Knowledge exam
• AEPA Content Knowledge exam
•Structured English Immersion (SEI): an Arizona State Board-approved course or training 45 hours / 3 semester credits for Provisional Certification; after three years of teaching, 90 hours / 6 semester credits for Full Certification. Required for all students regardless of residency.
The Arizona Department of Education also requires:
• Arizona Constitution - Department of Ed. exam, or equivalent course (within one year of initial teacher certification if teaching Social Studies/History/Government; within three years of initial teacher certification if not teaching Social Studies/ History/Government)
• U.S. Constitution - Department of Ed. exam, or equivalent course (within one year of initial teacher certification if teaching Social Studies/History/Government; within three years of initial teacher certification if not teaching Social Studies/ History/Government)
