ADP Secondary Education Certification Requirements

Secondary Certification Requirements (quarter credits/semester credits)

In order to qualify for an Institutional Recommendation leading to Arizona Secondary Education Provisional Certification, students must complete 59 quarter credits/38 semester credits in education coursework.

Below is information regaring study contact and evaluation completion.

Study Contract
The Study Contract is the  form used in ADP to officially document a mentored course. Prior to submitting this form, the student and mentor should draft and revise the study contract to their mutual satisfaction; we strongly recommend involving the core faculty in this process. The student should save the final content of the study contract to a file on her or his computer for use in the study contract submission process. To submit the study contract form electronically, the student opens the study contract form here, pastes in the agreed upon content and fills in other required information. The student then signs the electronic form and routes the study contract to the mentor for review and signature. From the mentor, the study contract moves to the core faculty; the core faculty routes the approved contract to the Registrar. By using the link provided here, all routing is automatic upon the electronic signature of each signee. If the mentor or core faculty require revisions to the study contract, the student will be notified electronically that the contract needs to be modified and resubmitted.

Evaluation

This form is completed by both student and mentor at the end of the course. To submit the evalutaion electronically, the student opens the evaluation here and fills in required information including the student's self evaluation. The Student Evaluation should be the student's statement of what s/he did, learned, encountered, appreciated most, had most difficulty with, etc. Any reader should be able to gain a clear sense of what this course actually contained for this student. The student then signs the electronic form and routes the evalution to the mentor to review, and his or her evaluation, and electronically sign.

The mentor should read the Student Evaluation before writing the Mentor Evaluation. The mentor completes the Mentor Evaluation section. The Mentor Evaluation can refer to the Student Evaluation and then go beyond. As with the Student Evaluation, the Mentor Evaluation should communicate what the student studied, what s/he did, what s/he learned, what went best, and may comment on areas of weakness or concern, or make recommendations for further study. From the mentor, the evaluation moves to the core faculty; the core faculty routes the approved evaluation to the Registrar. By using the link provided here, all routing is automatic upon the electronic signature of each signee. If the mentor or core faculty require revisions to the evaluation, the student will be notified electronically that the evaluation needs to be modified and resubmitted.

The entire evaluation becomes part of the student's permanent transcript. Each section should be thoroughly written and carefully proofread. The student should keep a copy for his/her records. Credit cannot be given without completed Evaluation Forms.

The Arizona Department of Education also requires:

    • Arizona Constitution - Department of Ed. exam, or equivalent course (within one year of initial teacher certification if teaching Social Studies/History/Government; within three years of initial teacher certification if not teaching Social Studies/ History/Government)
    • U.S. Constitution - Department of Ed. exam, or equivalent course (within one year of initial teacher certification if teaching Social Studies/History/Government; within three years of initial teacher certification if not teaching Social Studies/ History/Government)
