We had a great time at Alumni Coming Home Weekend, October 22-24. We used the south wing of the Crossroads Center and cafe for the first time, had a great talent show on Saturday evening, and wonderful presentations, field trips, and a hike on Saturday.
The Alumni Slide Show was also a hit, and was shown at the Dean's Reception on Friday evening. You can watch it in either PowerPoint format, or PDF.
We hope for better alumni turn-out next year! The alumni that did attend had a wonderful time networking with each other as well as current parents of students, who were also on campus for the weekend.
Later this month, you'll be receiving this year's 2004 Change for Good Annual Fund Campaign information in your mailbox. I hope that you will consider contributing to Prescott College this year. Our first 500 donors will receive the 2005 PC Calendar as special thanks!

As some of you are no doubt aware, Dr. Steve Walters died in a tragic bicycle accident Friday morning October 29. He was on his normal morning ride when the accident occurred. Our sense of loss and grief are almost unbearable. He was the guiding light in the Adult Degree and Master of Arts Programs and a gifted educator who believed in the inherent good in everyone.
Walters was dean of the Adult Degree and Graduate Programs, which includes the Adult Degree Program (Bachelor of Arts degree completion program), Master of Arts Program, and Teacher Education Program. Walters was hired as a faculty in the Adult Degree Program in 1991 and was also dedicated to the master's program since that time, having served as a member of the original steering committee that designed the program. Most recently he was a key member of the committee working to develop Prescott College's Ph.D. program.
Prescott College, in conjunction with Steve's family, is establishing the Steve Walters Scholarship Fund, which will benefit students in the Adult Degree and Graduate Programs. The family requests that donations be made to this fund in lieu of flowers or memorials. To contribute to the fund, please make checks payable to Prescott College, and send them to 220 Grove Ave., Prescott, AZ 86301. You may also donate online.
Dr. Steve Walters was a valuable and loved member of our community and his leadership and virtue will be missed by all of us.

My wife Melissa Klatzker gave birth to Logan Daniel Klatzker, 8lb-11oz & 23 inches, on August 4th, 2004. Of course he has been hiking and camping and by the end of the year will have been to at least five western states. He travels well for about 6 and a half hours then we have to stop moving. We played bluegrass and reggae while he was in the womb and he has thoroughly enjoyed the two bluegrass bands he's seen to date. atklatzker@yahoo.com

Hello from Bear Brook State Park in NH. We moved out here this fall amidst the changing of the leaves and we are having fun reconnecting with some great Prescott folks. Our two kids, Jackson and Tasha, are just great, and Sarah is busy teaching, creating and selling art. I am loving my job as Program Director for SCA's NH Parks AmeriCorps program. The journey continues!

Anchorage Alumni Gathering

From Maggie McQuaid, Class of '73:
Here is a photo from our Prescott Alumni get-together which we had here in Anchorage September 25th. We had a very heavy snowfall that day which probably limited the turnout. But I think everyone had a great time. I laughed all evening. Although we attended at different times, we had a lot in common, and we realized that the Prescott "experience" gave us some very strong ties.
From left to right:
Harris Sussman (aka Hal Lenke), a faculty member from the early 70s. Harris was instrumental in rallying the College community when the old college went bankrupt in 1974. He helped with reorganization, and kept the Prescott dream alive. (While in Anchorage, Harris Sussman also spoke at the kick-off for the City of Anchorage's Diversity Week.) Next is Dr. Ellen Cole, a faculty member and college dean in the late 80s/early 90s. She is currently on the faculty of Alaska Pacific University. In the middle, Maggie McQuaid, a legal investigator and member of the Class of '73. Next is Dr. Doug North who was President of Prescott College in the late 80s/early 90s, and is now President o Alaska Pacific University. Last and not least is Ken Freedman, a Licensed Professional Counselor who got his Masters at Prescott College in the late 80s.

RDP Faculty K.L. Cook Book Tour
Dear PC Alumni,
As you may know, my collection of linked stories, Last Call, recently won the Prairie Schooner Book Prize in Fiction and has just been published by the University of Nebraska Press. I'm on sabbatical this year, along with my wife, fellow Arts & Letters faculty member Charissa Menefee. We are currently on a 2-month, 12-state, 10,000-mile book tour. I'm giving readings, talks, and workshops at various bookstores, colleges and universities, book festivals, literary centers, and libraries along the way.
I'd love to see PC folks on my travels. The full details of my book tour are available at my website, www.klcook.net, under Readings and Events. The Alumni website also contains a quick list of places and dates where I'll be. I hope to see some of you on the road.
Cheers,
K. L. (Kenny) Cook
