Peter Nielsen, RDP '75

I work for Missoula County managing a local water quality protection program. My biggest project is cleanup of the Milltown Reservoir Superfund site, amd removal of the Millltown Dam and Stimson Mill Dam on the Blackfoot and Clark Fork Rivers. I am married with two sons, one in college at Gonzaga and the other a senior in high school. My wife Killeen is a nurse practitioner. I've stayed in touch with John Einersen, but have not heard from others who attended Prescott College in its last semester in 1974 and the first semester of the Prescottt Center in 1975, when I attended. Would love to hear from old friends. nielsenkep@aol.com

Ellery Kimball, RDP '99

I miss the Violet Ray laundry mat in Prescott, where you could wash and dry your clothes for a buck and with your remaining quarters buy a few freshly made tamales. For the past four years I've been busy running a seven-acre organic farm on conservation land in Lincoln, Massachusetts. Through the farm stand and to restaurants in Boston I sell vegetables, flowers, herbs and raspberries and offer educational programs for kids during the summer. I hope the chapel and the Butte Creek Cafe are still buzzing with music. I continue to frail the banjo with dirty fingers. www.blueheronfarmlincoln.com , ellerywk@hotmail.com

Michael Shay, RDP '99

After time in Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, and then Colorado, I moved back to my hometown of Austin in 2002. Since then I've been playing and teaching music here, both as a singer/songwriter/bandleader, and as a cellist. I just finished my second acoustic CD, "Lines of Darkness, Lines of Light," which will be available very soon through my website, www.michaelshay.com , or by contacting me directly (even better!). The cover and inside of the CD features art by Ann (Ann-Marie) Piambino, a roomate from RDP days. Anyone know where she is? I pulled a watercolor of hers out of the trash when we were moving out of the house at Oregon and Josephine, and look where it ended up! I'd love to hear from anyone from those days, as I wrap up a music degree through ADP (finishing in July '05). As soon as that's done, I will be setting off on a perpetual tour, so chances are, I'll be in you neck of the woods before too long! michael@michaelshay.com

Brad Tito, RDP '00

Hello everybody! Since I left Prescott in 2002, I attended the Milano Graduate School of the New School University in New York City where I graduated with a MS in Urban Policy Analysis and Management. I have since been working on Long Island for Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi as the Assistant to the Director of Environmental Coordination. We work on all kinds of interesting projects. For example, yesterday I heard a presentation from a company which will build a 140 megawatt off-shore wind project for the Long Island Power Authority. In a nutshell, my job is to plan projects which will save resources, conserve energy, and reduce pollution. VIVA Prescott College ! bradtito@hotmail.com

Steve Liptay, RDP '03

Just wanted to drop a line - from NYC! I'm interning for the film company, Toxic Comedy, working on 'Melting Planet,' a documentary about global warming. In April, I'll be returning to the Texas gulf coast to continue plover and tern research with the Audubon Society's Coastal Bird Conservation Program. Get in touch if we're crossing paths. steveliptay@hotmail.com

Misty and Peter Groves-Benedict, RDP '95 and '93

Peter and Misty just welcomed a second little boy, Tucker McDonald on 7/17. He's beautiful, looks just like his dad and big brother Otter. School is great, though hard work. We miss Prescott life and all our friends. misty@rof.net

F. Ken Freedman, MAP '98

Six years since the Xers trusted the process. And it is still happening. Can't count too many days I don't think of, use, talk about, or somehow connect with Prescott and what has become, in my mind, a legendary and transformational time. My practice is reaching its limit (restricted by health and energy) and, while I work with all stripe of client, my current demand leans toward Transgender people. Way fascinating. Also, I'm discovering deeper uses of anxiety and differentiation to augment therapy; very helpful in exploring issues of splitting, projection, and denial, among so many others. Big hug to Carol A. (thanks for urging responses), and to Prescott Xers, and Frankie and Joan, and Stacey and Doug. Anyone ever hear about or from Cheri? fken@alaska.net

Hello Everyone! Hope that you all are doing well. If you ever come to Lake Tahoe , drop me a line and we'll go skiing.  menard@ltol.com

Jan ClutterJan Clutter, ADP '96

Greetings from the gorgeous Pacific Northwest ( Portland , Oregon , to be exact). While no one will recognize my name (I attended PC for just one year--ADP '95-'96) and I don't recognize anyone else's either(?), I would like everyone to know that I still have a very proud sense of kinship to all of you. And it is with great interest and curiosity that I eagerly read the quarterly newsletters and on-line alumni news. There's something about this business of camaraderie even though we don't necessarily personally know one another! I moved to the northwest seven years ago to be able to relish the incomparable beauty and serenity and to be near my two adult sons. Have lived in 3 different cities and 4 residences (I now finally OWN!), and I have been unemployed for the past 1-1/2 years; but starting in November, I will officially be "retired" as I begin to collect early SSI benefits (besides, it sounds better to my psyche and to the 'world')! I will continue with my side business and passion of being a personal holistic health coach, which was my major at PC. I am wishing you all much joy, Ava Konikowskisuccess, optimum health and great passion in your lives! BE YOUR DREAM! healthcoach@myway.com

Courtney Oertel, RDP '02

I am in the third semester of my Master's program here in Denmark and am now living in Aarhus , the cultural center of Denmark . It has been a great summer filled with festivals, swims in the freezing ocean waters, and then a much warmer week in the Caribbean , but now its time to get moving again and on September 16th I will be leaving for Bhubaneshwar , India for a three month internship. I will be working with Agragamee (www.agragammee.org ), an NGO dedicated to the social and environmental welfare of indigenous and rural groups in the state of Orissa. The project I will be working with is a nine year battle against Alcan, a Canadian Trans National Corporation, who to date have created 1.4 million environmental refugees in Orissa due to their mining interests. Currently, the project is focused on one indigenous group whose sacred lands and lifestyle are intact but are at grave risk as the battle continues. My main duties at Agragamee will be to design a fundraising strategy and begin executing it, also as I will be developing my thesis on Corporate Social Responsibility while I am there and plan to photograph the sacred forests and the people of the tribe. I hope to use this imagery when I return toward a social art exhibition which will accompany my thesis. These are scary times and I am very nervous, yet still so very excited to see what experiences this holds for me. I will be keeping in touch as the project progresses and hope to be visiting Prescott next fall to share it with the community. If anyone is interested in learning more about this project or are interested in joining Agragamee for an internship or an independent study please check out the website above or contact me at fireflies_@hotmail.com .

My husband Rhett, daughter Savannah and I have moved to D.C. for a year. We are here to learn Greek. The Air Force is sending us there for two years. I will be teaching and my husband who was selected as a scholar will be studying a non-technical degree.  It is quite an honor to be selected to do this, so we are, of course, very excited! We are also expecting our second child! renesail@hotmail.com

Exciting news from Seattle ...On August 27th, I became engaged!  When Steve and I were mountaineering in Alberta he proposed on top of a mountain in the snow!  It was snowing, cold, and we were tied onto a rope team.  Just as we were reaching the summit he slid the ring down to me on an engraved carabiner that read 'will you marry me?'.  Of course I was crying as soon as I saw the ring and he actually had to read it to me, because I couldn't see.  He got down on his knee and then I became his future wife.  Amazing and unforgettable.  Many of you from the PC community mean more than you will ever know to me... whether we met on a course or passed each other at Sam Hill.  I send you all smiles and thanks for all the incredible times and memories! adventurechic98005@yahoo.com

Kate Cronkite, RDP '73

I was part of the Today Show series on Women and Depression that ran Sept. 7-10 due to my work in mental health advocacy, my book On the Edge of Darkness, and my own experiences. Loving living in Austin, TX and summering at my parents' in Martha's Vineyard. Love my boys; John just starting high school, studying Japanese, and Will, campaign manager for a state judge. (They're on the show, too.) All my speeches this fall are in battleground states, so I'm planning to help out a little everywhere I go. Stay interesting. kcronkite@attwireless.blackberry.net

I am pleased to announce that I have accepted a part-time position with the Hillsborough County Attorney's office as assistant county attorney in New Hampshire.  My law office will continue to be open for estate planning and business start-ups.  paula@philbrooklaw.com

Eric Remza, RDP '98

I have been based out of Seattle for the last 5 years working as a mountain guide. The cool news is that I no longer live out of my truck. I bought a condo last January, and now I have a bed and all the other stuff, too. I still call the NorthFace VE-25 my office/home though. I guide domestically here in the North Cascades and Alaska during the summer. I usually have the Fall off to roadtrip and visit with friends, then dodge the Seattle rainfest for international work in Mexico and Argentina . It is a lifestyle, and sure beats the 9-5 grind...the grass is always greener though. I cross paths with a lot of PC folk in the mountains, Joey Elton, Andy Rich and Rob Gowler to name a few...all doing really well. Heading down to SoCal. this Fall to learn how to surf and get some climbing in along the way. Fire me off an email if you are ever in the Northwest. Would love to have ya! eremza@hotmail.com

Eric Billingsley, RDP '97

As a wise person once said, "The only thing constant is change." After graduating from the RDP in 1997, I traveled in Europe for a few months. Upon returning, I met Rebekah Johnston - also a former PC student. Within a year-and-a-half we were married. Our first child, Gabriel, was born on winter solstice (Dec. 22) 1999. We moved to Albuquerque , New Mexico in 2000 where we built a modern, totally solar-powered home. Our second child, Lavender, was born in May 2002. Post PC, my career has evolved with the seasons, from working in the social services to working as a business journalist, to now, working in public relations for New Mexico 's largest advertising firm. My journalistic stories have been published in business journals throughout the United States . I also carved a freelance niche for a while writing about New Mexico artists for Wildlife Art Magazine, technology commercialization for TecComm magazine, and I wrote a couple of stories about sustainable business for LOHAS Journal. The public relations work is fascinating, because I'm working a lot with "economic development" initiatives in New Mexico --historically one of the poorest states in the nation. As of lately, things have changed yet again. Rebekah and I recently separated and now I'm being initiated into the single parent life. As my life goes through these changes - the fun ones and the not so fun ones- remembering my time at PC is always a source of inspiration. I've learned that the whole idea of experiential learning truly is the only preparation for "real" life. Take care all and keep doing the great things you're meant to do. If you want to drop me a line my e-mail is etbil@yahoo.com

Hi everyone! I am currently working as a vegetation ecologist in Tucson . Some of my work was just published in the June 2004 issue of Desert Plants (check it out if you are interested in saguaros!). My most exciting news item to report is that I have decided to go back to school. I hope to be accepted to the MAP Program this spring to pursue my master's degree in studio art. I have always been fascinated by the relationship between science and art, and so I am very excited about this new opportunity. Peace and love to the Prescott community! csfuncicelli@yahoo.com

The short version is I lived in Montana for two years and was a ski bum, I lived in Portland Oregon for 3 years and was a kayak bum. For the last two years I have been living in Western Mass. and working (playing) with children with Autism and it is the best experience of my life. If you ever find yourself in Great Barrington, MA look me up. E-mail is deland73@hotmail.com

I have settled outside of Tallahassee , FL , married Rene Cline and we are raising two incredible children (Everett, 5, and Samantha, 2). I started organic farming in Moab , UT, after getting disenchanted with outdoor guiding jobs, and relocated to Tallahassee to be close to my wife's family. Everett Farm supplies my innovative hot-weather salad mix and arugula to fine local restaurants and natural food stores when other growers say it can't be done. I also dabble with other produce, including shiitake mushrooms. I've also begun making custom wood furniture; that business is called Cricket Woods, borrowing from our daughter's nickname. It would be a kick in the pants to hear from old friends! everettfarms@tds.net

One of my photographs has been chosen from a field of 14,000 entrants as a " Highly Honored" Winner in the People in Nature Category of the 2004 Nature's Best International Photography Awards competition. The photo will appear in the special awards issue of Nature's Best Photography magazine (November) and will also be displayed as part of Nature's Best Photography Exhibits Program, which will include an exhibit December at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington DC. I have been seriously pursuing my Photography muse commercially since my days in Prescott as well as guiding in Grand Canyon , skiing the steep and deep of the Western US . You can see my "Highly Honored" photograph and other work on my web site, http://www.tombrownold.com . Let me know if you do.

My wife Melissa Klatzker gave birth to Logan Daniel Klatzker, 8lb-11oz & 23 inches, on August 4th, 2004 . Of course he has been hiking and camping and by the end of the year will have been to at least five western states. He travels well for about 6 and a half hours then we have to stop moving. We played bluegrass and reggae while he was in the womb and he has thoroughly enjoyed the two blugrass bands he's seen to date. atklatzker@yahoo.com

The Tumacacori Mountains are being considered for Wilderness Designation. There are many opponents, and some people want to put a high tension power line down through the mountains. More information available at Sky Island Alliance, Tumacacori Wilderness, or Friends of the Santa Cruz River websites. Please write to state senators, congressmen, and Governor Janet Napolitano to support the effort to keep these wonderful wilderness mountains as they are forever.

After working for almost 3 years at the Highlands Center for Natural History while going to school I have recently started a new job as an Environmental Scientist doing Environmental Remediation throughout the surrounding Vegas area. I have been going through quite a bit of training over the last month and have slowly been getting to know about the various projects that I will be working on and the procedures involved with the work. It has been very exciting learning a new career with the possibility of new and great opportunities. robbaumert@hotmail.com

Just to let you know, in December 2003, I came to the University of New Mexico, Gallup, as a Visiting Research Lecturer to coordinate their brand new Diabetes Prevention Specialist Program, the first of its kind in the US. We're now into the 3rd semester of class offerings and have witnessed a substantial increase in student enrollment. I couldn't have done it without the guidance and encouragement I received from my Advisor Luana Mangold and the faculty and staff at Prescott College. sagediabetes@yahoo.com

The photo is of my partner, Elaina Herndon, and I with our daughter, Solia, on Lake Buel in the beautiful Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, where make our home.  Solia A'marie was born on September 5 th , 2003 - a beautiful sunny day.  She just turned one and is walking and saying words like, flower (owa) and water (rara) and is quite a character.  She loves music and dancing - dad plays the drums for her and mom plays the cello.  I have been recording an album with my band, Wakarusa (it's a Native American word for "knee deep in the swamp or mud").  It will be our first album of original Latin, West African and Brazilian music, with a little of India and the Middle East thrown in for good measure - four percussionists, lead vocalist who plays guitar and piano, bass player, lead guitarist (who plays steel drum) and a horn/flute player that can play alto and tenor at the same time!  The album should be mixed down and produced by Thanksgiving.  Email or call if you want a listen! acschmid@adelphia.net

As for work, Elaina teaches dance to kids, is a landscape gardener and intends to pursue more work as a photographer.  This year, I will finish my massage studies (begun at PC with Jack Staudacher in 1992) and I have been , but in order to support a family, I am working as a mortgage broker, helping people to buy and refinance homes.  It is much different than what I ever intended to do, but I enjoy it and it pays well.  More than that, it is one piece of a big puzzle that seems to be coming together.  I intend to use the mortgage connection to buy and ecologically rehab houses with Elaina, then rent them out to students and visitors to the area (and eventually sell them and go travel the world?).  I studied Eco-design at PC and did a good bit of carpentry work over the years, so this seems to be a natural progression.

I loved my time at PC!  Not just for the many great times had and connections made there, but for the ability it gave me to see and make connections.  I feel like PC gave me the broad perspective that is necessary in life to see the possibilities and to forge ahead to make those possibilities into something tangible and useful and good for the world we create.  An education at PC taught me things that I use every day - even though I don't work directly in the fields that I studied there (Eco-design and Wilderness Leadership), the general abilities that are inherent in PC graduates are invaluable in life - to write and communicate well, to lead, to follow, to manage, to organize, to research, to take responsibility, to jump into situations and make things happen on the fly, to welcome new ideas with open arms, to understand and value diversity and ecology and human rights and on and on and on..  In this crazy, crazy election year, I say " Prescott College for President!".

Chris Glade and Miriam Reuss

Christopher Glade (RDP '99) and Miriam Reuss (RDP '03) were joined in a civil union amongst a small gathering of family and friends just north of Johannesburg, South Africa on July 3, 2004. We plan to have a REAL wedding in Alaska sometime in 2005. We shall keep you updated. Just wanted to share to good news!!

Hello fellow alumni - A quick note for my friends and other MAP associates: Since graduating I have worked primarily as a bereavement counselor in hospice, for an AIDS foundation, for a geriatric psychiatric hospital unit, and currently with low-income elders through the Pima County Community Services program. I have discovered that the Masters degree I earned opened more doors than I imagined, and I am still exploring my next adventure. Isn't life-learning a beautiful thing? The forthcoming Prescott College PhD program is of great interest for me; I'd like to continue to pursue aging studies, death and loss, and related topics (such as the dramatic increase in HIV infection in elder women). I am currently taking an online writing course in Feature Writing - I have some ideas of where I want this to go but will save that for the next installment. I would so enjoy hearing from my fellow MAP alumni of 1998! To all who read this: being a member of the Prescott College family is a matter of enormous pride for me. Thanks one and all. Go and find your dream. rubysroadhouse@msn.com

After a brief stay in the pacific northwest, I have returned to the desert of Arizona. I am working as a biologist for Arizona Game and Fish. I work with endangered fish (razorback suckers) on the Colorado River and other areas of the state. Occasionally, I am able to get out to help with other animals as well. I am extremely happy to be putting my PC training to 'work' for me in doing what I love and believe in. I welcome PC 'kids' to contact me when in the Arizona area! aneni@hotmail.com

Ed Miller, RDP '75

I can't believe I've worked for NASA for 25 years! Mentally, I'm afraid I never progressed beyond the 18 year old who volunteered to join the first post-collapse (PCAE) Prescott board and stuck around Prescott for a few years to wait tables, organize the first PC reunion in '77 (with Ted Rosenberg and others) and be a PCAE board member. Maybe that's a good thing. I was always a space geek, and somehow landed a job at JPL in 1980, where I work on scientific instruments for various kinds of space-based science investigations. Right now, instruments I worked on are orbiting Saturn on the Cassini spacecraft, and a new one just launched last week (called AURA) that is an Earth atmospheric science mission that will map human sources of air pollutants as they move through the atmosphere; its objective is to trace the causes of global warming. I'm currently in charge of the scientific instruments for the Dawn mission, which will visit the two largest (Texas-sized) asteroids in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

I married Karen Tate Miller in 1995; she's an expert in public relations, media relations, and in general a wonderful writer. She's also an ordained Zen buddhist priest. We have a beautiful daughter named Georgia Grace, who will be 5 next month and is the source of all joy and happiness. Life is good. Would love to stay in touch with all of my dear friends from Prescott College. And I need to get out in the woods more often! cmdred@earthlink.net

After Prescott , I continued my varied interests, first my ballet in New York, then the music business in New York and London, marrying an Olympic skier and raising 3 fantastic children in the Rockies in Colorado. And after getting a medical degree in 1995, I worked Medicaid on the Navajo reservation. Now I have an 'NGO' which is involved in HIV/AIDS education with the Masaai in Tanzania near Mt Kilimanjaro. I feel as though Tanzania is my first home. aidsedu@earthlink.net

Hello Prescott people! I live in the Western mountains of Maine in Rangeley. I have a year-round job as a lab tech at the little dentist office here, which is kinda funny because they let me take x-rays and use hand-pieces! In the winter, I baby-sit and work at Saddleback Mountain and in the summer I work on a wonderful organic farm. There is plenty of time to play and frolic. I miss the desert and my gang. Love to all and sweet dreams! chuttlecheese@hotmail.com

Still here in central New Hampshire. Teaching chemistry to young ski racers and freestyle competitors in the winter,  and doing a variety of things in the summer. Kids are busy. Lucy is finishing up summer reading in preparation for 10th grade and Seth is excited about 8th grade and being a top dog at the middle school. Had a great visit with Jerome in early August. I sincerely hope it is just the first of many. Let me know if anyone is headed for New England. libr@aaahawk.com

I just returned from a 3-month trip to Southeast Asia after completing my PC-MAP degree in Environmental Studies-Public Land Conservation. I explored Thailand and Cambodia, delving into meditation, travel, and cultural experiences to boggle an American paradigm. I'm back working for our Arizona Wilderness lands with the AWC (check out www.azwild.org ) and am spending my last summer here in Prescott. I am also finishing my two-year service as the Prescott College Student Trustee and I hope to help out with our Alumni Association in the near future. In September, Jennifer Nishwitz and I will be moving up to Minnesota 's North Shore. We will be immersing ourselves back into North Country with a trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Want to come? Does anyone have any job opportunities in the area for an experienced and impassioned wilderness advocate? I may be presenting at our Eco-league affiliate, Northland College, about wilderness for the 40th anniversary of the Wilderness Act in September. Never hesitate to reconnect; I'd love to meet some Midwestern PC folks . Peace, Love and all that. jay_onewhowanders@yahoo.com

WOW! It is great to read what everyone is up to! Since graduating from Prescott College I have run a science program at a children's museum, been a sea kayaking guide, worked as a campaign coordinator for an animal rights organization, managed a veterinary hospital, and now I am a mom!! I married my high school sweetheart in May 2000, and had a beautiful baby boy named Dominick on May 28, 2003 . I live in the beautiful Marin County where I can hike a different trail with my dogs and my baby every day. Life is good. I miss Prescott and its community and faculty and all of my friends, would love to hear from friends who come through the bay area. Give a call anytime.

Mark White and I are going on our three year wedding anniversary this July! We are living at almost 9,000 feet in the Central Rockies of Colorado in a little old town called Crested Butte. We had an amazing winter with three snow-filled valleys minutes from town to explore on skis. Please contact us if we've lost touch with you: sherry_l_barnes@yahoo.com, or Mark White, rivergrizzly@hotmail.com.

For the past six years I have been living a semi-subsistence lifestyle in Alaska: growing vegetables, fishing, selling baskets, and doing a couple wilderness trips every year. In August, Larry Landry and I are getting married on a river trip. I am also starting a practice as a clinical herbalist and acupressurist. I have sporadic internet access, our e-mail: mtavens@hotmail.com

Hi all! I was excited to see this board and see fellow graduates happy in their lives. I am most happy living out my dream here in MO. My biggest piece of news is Oliver Matthew Schwab. Matt Schwab and I welcomed him into our lives on 7/19/04 (2 weeks late!). He is an amazing human being and being a mother is quite wonderful. I am running a therapeutic equine center. We program doing equine experiential learning, equine facilitated psychotherapy, therapeutic riding/vaulting/driving and much more. We have been supported by the MO state tax credit program and our brand new indoor, 4-season arena is being built as we speak. Life is good, we miss AZ, but are really enjoying the color green and water. Hope all are doing well, drop me a line at sara@horsesofhope.org. And if you're ever in MO . . .

Since leaving Prescott and graduating from Oberlin College in '76, and U. Denver in '81 (M.A. in mass communications), I've been in and out of high-tech publishing and public relations, finally landing in college teaching as a profession, earning my PhD from New Mexico State U. in '98 and tenure at U. Houston-Downtown this year. I credit PC with imbuing me with a lasting commitment to environmental issues, did my dissertation on the rhetoric of the livestock grazing issue in the American West, and am now interested in developing a species of ecological ethics, based on new scientific principles emerging from the study of ecology. (In fact, I applied for the recent environmental studies position at PC, but never heard back, so . . .). My late wife, Lori Wehman (who died in '87); my son, Eli (now 32); and I traveled wide and far, living in Hawaii, Cincinnati, San Francisco, Denver and Boston, and now Eli has settled in Seattle and I in Houston. I'd most like to hear from John Annerino, Chris Parks, Paul Potenza, and any of my colleagues on the Manti-La Sal wilderness orientation trip of fall 1974.

Joshua Caine Anchors' (MAP '98) book, Regarding Hwange and Other Matters of Perception , was recently published, based on his experiences as an environmental Peace Corps Volunteer in Zimbabwe. The book can be accessed at www.publishamerica.com/books/4804 . The following is a brief description:

In the heart of Zimbabwe safari country, Siweti Mathe learns to translate his fear into art, Lucky Mapfuwa feels the sweetness of liberation for a single day, Steve and his family face the harsh realities of an unpredictable terrain, Ellie Sibanda fights off hungry elephants and greedy headmasters to sustain her family, and Anna discovers only emptiness in her escape to Africa. This is a landscape where pangolins reflect on their meaning late into the night and family safari vacations go awry. Touching upon many of the essential yet enigmatic relationships between humans and the land they live upon, Regarding Hwange offers an indelible glimpse into a wilderness of perceptions that can be both illuminating and tragic.

Amy Kirk (RDP '92) was recently awarded a $14,000 New Works grant from The Rhode Island Foundation to research and write a play about nonviolence, specifically about peace activists in the Ocean State. The project, entitled "Peace: Portraits of Possibility" involves civic dialogues, personal interviews, and creative workshops as part of the research process. A series of staged readings with local actors will be presented to the public in late 2004.

The article also mentions Prescott College.

Jeremy (RDP '99) and Karen Lyness LeBlanc (RDP '00)Isaac LeBlanc

We have had quite an amazing year. On October 27, 2003 we welcomed our son, Isaac Lyness LeBlanc, into the world.   He is such a wonderful little boy; he keeps us laughing constantly.   A year and a half ago we purchased a house in Hillsdale, New York, and we really enjoy home-ownership.   Jeremy and I work together at a residential drug and alcohol treatment center in Canaan, Connecticut.   I am Admissions Coordinator and Jeremy directs the Therapeutic Challenge Program. We are very happy to be able to bring Isaac and Vesba (some of you may remember our dog) to work with us everyday.   The residents adore them both.   We feel blessed to have an employer who is so supportive of families.   So, life in the Berkshires is good.   Wishing everyone all the best.

Many memories -- Jay Dusard, Leonard Ossorio, Roy Smith, Ronald Nairn, Vern Taylor, Larry my horse, and more. Many trips later, length of Baja by kayak, across the Atlantic by sailboat, etc. Prescott College is always there. Proud father of two daughters: Kyle a junior at Williams College, and Paige in 9th grade.   Happily married to Pamela who met me while skiing in Colorado, married me and moved to Maine so I could learn wooden boat building.   She has been my support through many relocations following a career in the marine industry. 55 and still at it, sea kayaking, sailing, iceboat builder and racer, http://homepage.mac.com/macebo. Prescott College, great people, great times. Thanks to all, drop a note.

This spring I celebrate new life with the birth of our daughter, Autumn Sydney. Having a child has caused me to rediscover the details of life in every moment. Each morning she awakens smiling and with so much enthusiasm for life! I learn from my 9-week-old daughter everyday.   Since leaving Prescott College my life has been centered on guiding children to understand the interconnection of life through exploring our natural world. I attended graduate school in Maine for education and have been a science/social studies teacher for 6 years already.   I met my soul mate in Maine in 2001 and we moved to his home state of Virginia shortly there after.   We married on a remote sea cliff in Phippsburg in 2002 and renewed our vows on our one-year anniversary with friends and family in Bar Harbor, Maine.   My husband works for a small non-profit at the James River Association as the Director of Education and Outreach. I hope to secure my certification as a Montessori teacher and begin working at a new school opening in Hanover in 2005. Meanwhile, I will continue working as a public school teacher. Life is Grand!

Courtney Oertel, RDP '02

Since leaving Prescott I have found myself taken on a path that I would have never expected, but that makes it even more exciting! I am now living in Aalborg, Denmark and studying in the Master's Program of International Affairs, specifically, International Relations and Development.   I am enjoying my study, becoming integrated into Danish society, terraces at the many cozy cafes, avoiding Parisian Fashion, viewing art without the hindrance of censorship, and most of all, finally understanding what Chip Stearns and Paul McKee meant in 2000 during our course throughout Eastern Europe: to travel doesn't have to mean being a traveler. I am always happy to see what other alum are up to, and hope that more of my friends scattered around the globe drop a note, too. Also, I must thank all of the dedicated people over at the Art Department for making the second Art Auction such a success!!

I will be moving from Winslow, AZ in June to teach at Morrison Academy in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.   I will be teaching middle school language arts, social studies, and Bible classes.   My husband and I will be helping Hope for a Hakka Harvest Christian mission during our time there.

If only I had known when I attended Prescott College that I would end up teaching on the Rez, I would have taken the Indian Education classes! I love it here, and have great students and support.

Hi all! Seems our lives all take a few unexpected twists and turns post PC!   After leaving the RDP, and attempting the ADP in 2001, I decided school wasn't for me, and continued on in the Registrar's Office, for lack of anything better to do - I love you guys!   In Aug. '03 after having worked in the Registrar's Office for 6 1/2 years, I left to be a Nanny for friends that were expecting twins and already had an 8, 5 and 2 year old! The school bug bit once more, much sooner than expected, and I went back at Yavapai to start working on a whole new degree!   A complete 180!   I went from Environmental Education to Pre-Med! I've decided to be a practitioner of Network Spinal Analysis and have some pre-med courses to take before I can enter into their brand Masters Program!   I've just found out that I've been accepted into the University of Colorado at Boulder to finish my undergrad requirements!    So, this June after 8 years in Prescott I'll be saying fare well and heading for the mountains of Colorado!   Wish me luck! Blessings to you. cekane@earthlink.net - drop me a line!

I have recently returned to Southern California to take a job as Outdoor Program Director at a small camp in the San Gabrial Mountains. It has been truly amazing to be back in the desert/mountainous range again after living in the beautiful but wet and buggy region of mid-coast Maine. It has been a truly wonderful, challenging and exciting year for me in this new position, and I now have a much greater respect for those in administration who make it look so easy! Looking forward to another dry, warm, year here in Southern Cali.  If anyone is interested in visiting, please feel free to call, write, e-mail or just stop on by. Take care and I hope you all have a terrific year ahead! Namaste. semaj101@yahoo.com

Spokane Alumni

Five mid-seventies alumni gathered in Spokane, WA over Presidents' Day weekend for skiing and related festivities at the home of Stowell and Melody Laakso-Dickinson. Mimicking John Kerry on the stump, they said: "Standing here with this band of PC brothers and sisters, we may be a little older, we may be a little grayer, but we still know how to party for our college!"

I produced a half hour cooking show for children called "Snack Time" with a grant from the American Culinary Federation's Prescott and Flagstaff chapters as part of their "Chef and the Child" charity.  The program was a gift to area middle schools and it aired on Channel 13, local cable access.  Channel 13 has an award for best locally produced feature program and "Snack Time" won.  My idea for "Snack Time" is to show a field trip to where food is produced and teach basic kitchen skills to young viewers.  This pilot episode went to Young's Farm in Dewy to show how free -range chickens are grown and Hickman's eggs to show commercial egg production.

Hello everyone. How things have changed since I finished up at PC.   Some good, some bad, but overall a good experience.   I have pretty much performed a 180, job-wise; once I moved out to the peaceful northwest, I switched careers into software.   I started out at Passport, but quickly got moved to games.   I have pretty much specialized in the single player component of games, and took part in shipping MechAssualt (for you Xbox Live fans), and Halo for the PC.   Currently, I am a contingent staff test lead for the coolest game ever, Halo2.   As for family, I still haven't settled down; but perhaps someday.  That San Juan trip looks like a blast, might have to stop on by in June.

Anna Becker, ADP '02

Just wanted to up-date those I know at Prescott.   I am in my 2nd year teaching now, but have switched from Resource to a self-contained teaching position.   I am still at a middle school, and as crazy as it sounds I love it.   Who knew i would prefer middle school to elementary! Both of my children are enrolled at the school where I teach which has proven to be both a blessing and a curse.   I have been thinking recently that the Moapa Valley girls need to make another trip to Prescott.   Watch out Ellen and Chris--that could be trouble!

Ari Rapport, RDP '98

Just an update for all you PC folks who check out the alumni listings: I am living in Pittsburgh, PA now, after Prescott and a brief stay in Maryland with family.   Tracy Michaelis (RDP '99) and I are now married and officially linked for life, as of last August.   We are both happy and living with our pup Vega and our recent feline addition, Sasha.   Tracy finished her Master of Arts in Teaching for Middle School Science at the University of Pittsburgh and I am finishing my Master of Science in Sustainable Systems at Slippery Rock University (also in PA) this semester.   Our plan this summer is to move the family south to NC, and settle into a bit of warmth and southern sunshine.   We miss PC quite a lot and our nostalgia fills us with love and good thoughts for the school that brought us not only each other, but a sense of community that we can now bring into our lives everywhere we go!   To our fellow PC siblings: a happy, healthy and peaceful year to all!

Sally Butler, RDP '75

Still living in Santa Fe.   Own a couple of businesses, have two fabulous teenagers (who said teenagers are a drag?), ski, hike and boat as much as I can, which luckily is a lot.   Live at 8,100 feet with the mountains just out my door.   Come visit!   Would love to hear from old PC friends and am looking for families who do rivers.   Yvonne Joosten, where are you?

Caroline Wright, RDP '95

I just read through the class notes and it's so much fun to hear all the amazing things folks are up to!   I have been living in Prescott again for 3 years, and I am loving it.   I was working for awhile as a law enforcement ranger at Glacier National Park (and believe it or not, carrying a 9mm) and also worked as the photographer for the newspaper in Sedona.   But I made my way back and have been working as a counselor for teens at the west Yavapai Guidance Clinic for the past few years.   My parents live in Cottonwood, AZ now, and I feel Arizona is home.   My big news is that I am recently engaged to Bill Paiano who I have been dating for almost 3 years now.   He is a wonderful man, longtime resident of Prescott and a probation officer!   We have a very happy home with our dogs, a garden, and lots of camping.   No dates yet, just enjoying this time!    I would love to hear from anyone! caroline2673@yahoo.com

Life is good!   The last year has been exiting and full.   Laura and I were blessed with the birth of our daughter, Murphy Elizabeth, the purchase of our first home, and great career growth.   I am now the Director of Counseling at a premier therapeutic wilderness program, and actively lecturing on the topic of integrating spirituality and nature into the healing arts.   I have found my Prescott degree to be widely respected and an intriguing asset in the professional world.

After short lived career efforts in archaeology, the U.S. Army and corporate America with AT&T, I finally settled into a career with the U.S. Foreign Service. I am now living in Northern Virginia with my wife and daughter after having spent the better part of 20 years posted overseas at various U.S. Embassies.

Hello All! I have been living and working out of Cusco, Peru for the last 4 years as the head guide and operations manager for an Adventure Travel operator there.   We do rafting, trekking, mtn biking, kayaking, and cultural expeditions in Peru and Bolivia.   Through this journey I have met the love of my life, Jacqui, who is a dentist from Scotland.   We have established a charity organization together; www.dentalprojectperu.org and she spends her time out in remote villages treating villagers while I am on expeditions.   During the off-season, we spend our time traveling and surfing in Central and South America and doing publicity in the United Kingdom for the charity and for various Peruvian travel companies.   Don't have any drawers to put folded clothes in yet, still living out of bags, and loving it! But neckties are taking space away from smelly polypro.....oh so is life. Hope everyone is well.   Please drop me a note! clarkkotula@hotmail.com

Leanne Hanson (ADP '92) and Russell Oakley (RDP '92)
In summer 2003, Leanne started working in Ft. Collins (75 miles North of Golden), at the Fort Collins Science Center. Still with USGS, she is taking on new projects with her usual zeal. She rents a room in Ft. Collins during the week, then she comes home to Golden on weekends. One project Leanne is involved with is researching shorebird migration routes by measuring stable isotopes in feathers. She went to Argentina in January to help collect samples at the wintering grounds. She worked hard in the Argentine summer and learned a lot. She also learned that she very much enjoys international travel, and is making plans for future trips.

Russ is currently an independent contractor, installing lightning protection systems on large and small projects throughout Colorado. Still working outside in the sun and rain, he has difficulty imagining having to strap into a desk, though it seems to be happening more often lately, with photography projects, email, etc. Russ got a lot of climbing in this year too (50 days!)  In Spring 2003 he and frequent partner Ed Jenner went to Joshua Tree NP for a week of crack climbing in the Dr. Suess land of giant boulders and weird trees.

In Fall 2003, we inherited Leonard's (Russ' father) first ultralight aircraft, the Eagle. (I say "we" because it takes a village to raise a child...) Now we are looking for land near Ft. Collins, out in the plains, where we might have enough room to take off and land the airplane. Oh, yeah, we want to build a house there, too. We are glad to see PC doing so well.  Hard work and perseverance pay off in the end.

He's growing every day and we are so proud of our little man. I hope everyone is doing well at PC and I hope the holidays treated everyone well.

Since graduation life has not taken me far from the Prescott College campus!   I am currently a full time Instructor/Photo Lab Manager for the Photography Department in the Arts and Letter Program.   I am in love with my job, the students, the Prescott College community, and of course, Prescott itself (particularly the weather!).   Many new and exciting opportunities have been presented to me in the past few years, as life evolves.   In the fall, I had the honor and privilege to work with Paul McKee and Dennis DeHart on the 2nd Biennial Arts Auction, an event that raised $25,000 for a dedicated campus gallery space!   The evening was a huge success and has inspired me to continue my education.   I will be beginning the MAP program this spring, in the area of Arts Administration and Non-Profit Organization, and am excited about the possibilities and projects that will come of this study.   I would love to reconnect with my college buddies and past students, particularly those folks working in the arts or Non-Profit sector!   Feel free to drop a note anytime! jchandler@prescott.edu

Prescott does have a gravitational pull. After being gone from Prescott for five years, I have returned to teach (as an adjunct) at Prescott College. My husband Charlie, our two year old daughter Ananda Jordan and I moved back this summer and are thrilled. I completed my Masters in Depth Psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute just in time to give birth. We have a small private psychotherapy practice here in Prescott and I am also doing some therapy at the Orme School with Alex Spence. Would love to hear from old friends. Vicabel@aol.com

Hi y,all!   I am back living at home in the beautiful hills of Western Massachusetts.   My fiance, Elaina, and I just had our baby in September!   Her name is Solia A'marie and she is now three months old, healthy and growing as babies do.   It is a joy to watch her changing and learning each day.   I am now a mortgage consultant, running a business right out of my home, so I get to be with them alot.   As much as I enjoy helping folks to achieve their dreams of owning homes, I do sit in front of a computer too much.   I get out a little, though, to ski the park, snowboard, climb, run or swim here and there, and recently started coaching my local high school's alpine ski racing team.   Playing percussion and singing for dance classes and a regional band keep the creative juices flowing....   My band is called Wakarusa and we do a mix of Latin, Brazilian, West African and Middle Eastern world music.   We are in the midst of recording, so if you want a listen, email me for a sampler and send some of your own news!   Oh, we also just bought ten acres with awesome bouldering (common in the Biscuit, but miraculous out here!) - we hope to build in the next couple of years.   In the meantime, we have a guest room at our house, so if you are passing through for some of the world class bouldering (V15!) at the Rez in Great Barrington, MA, feel free to impose. Blessings to all the Prescott Community - I miss you a ton....

I have always appreciated my experience at Prescott College.   It definitely helped sculpt my intellect. I work as an engineer, but I apply the teachings from PC everyday.

Angela Hawse (RDP '86, MAP '01) recently led a successful all-women's expedition to Ama Dablam (22,494 ft.), in Nepal. On November 9th, Angela reached the summit with one client. Her nine member team, called the mAmas Dablam '03 , worked together for over a year and a half to raise money for The dZi Foundation's project, to start a safe house for girls at risk, in Sikkim, India. To date, the mAmas have raised $19,578 for the project. The majority of the team met and conceptualized the expedition at Chicks with Picks, (an all women's ice climbing clinic founded by PC Alum, Kim Reynolds (RDP '83) in Ouray, Colorado. For more information and photos of the expedition visit http://www.mamasdablam.org .

Hi PC!   So much to tell.   After moving on from the ponderosa pine-filled forests of Prescott, I moved to Fort Collins, CO.   A few years were all I could handle in the childcare profession, and somehow I took a job at New Belgium Brewing Company (you remember Fat Tire Amber Ale, don't you?).   I started at the brewery doing tours and tastings, but soon created my job as Sustainability Goddess.   I've now been there about 3.5 years and am loving my job.   New Belgium has had a huge impact on my life; it is also where I met my soul mate and husband, John.   We recently moved from Fort Collins to Golden (no, I'm not working for Coors!), which allows me to work from home 4 days a week and car commute only one.   I think about Prescott often, and had a great chance to relive some memories during my master's program at Antioch University Seattle with Chas Offutt.   I graduated from that program last December and am now officially "Master Mizia" with an MA in Environment and Community.   So, if you find yourself wondering Northern Colorado and wishing you had an old friend or a beer, give me a call!

Want to thank those at Prescott College who offered hope, possibility and practical help that contributed to my belief and courage to pursue an education: Tim, Terril, Barbara Mc. Inspired and stimulated by the outcome of my B.A. I returned to California and went for my M.S. in psychology and in July, 2004 will complete my doctorate in psychology. It has been a wonder-filled journey. For the last five years I've worked as a crisis therapist for a hospital in Lancaster, CA (the northern most tip of Los Angeles County), and earned hours toward eventual licensure, with a licensed clinical psychologist. Come January, 2004 I will teach in the Addiction Certification Program for CSUB.   My passion is teaching, whether with patients at the hospital or those who plan a career as a Certified Drug/Alcohol Counselor. My life is full, and filled with gratitude for those educators at Prescott College who gave me a glimpse of what could be possible with a higher education. a.gassaway@att.net

Hi all. I am living in Jackson, WY and have been for 4 years.   I am working as a Program Coordinator for a local non-profit.   I have also started working on getting my Master's in Business Administration of all things.   I am loving skiing and life in the mountains.   I have a great man in my life who enjoys the good things in life as much as I do.   I made it back for the Alumni Reunion and it was great to see Leah Lamb, Kristine Preziosi, and other lovely faces.   I do miss the desert air when it is -20 and cloudy.   I would love to hear from all of you "lost friends"- I stink at keeping in touch and apologize but CALL ME!!   Also if you wanna come and ski- well it would be good to contact me.   Take care and talk soon. mitchskm@hotmail.com

Howdy to y'all Prescott Alumni. I now live in sunny Portland, Oregon and have found my passions shift into a field known as slum lording (property management).   I've been learning the tricks of the trade over the past few months and am slowly building the empire. If anyone would like to apply those interpersonal communication skills learned at PC, feel free to visit anytime... preferably around the first of the month. Also, I am very excited about the new Crossroads Center at PC and hope everyone has taken the chance to learn more about it on the website (www.prescott.edu/crossroads). I would like to challenge the class of 2000 to be the largest contributors to this cause. I hope you all are well. Please stay in touch.

Hello to all of the class of 2002.   I am now working as a recruitment specialist at Yavapai College.   On November the 8th my wife and I had a baby boy in the small town of Cottonwood.   My life seems to be in full swing and I look forward to getting a masters in Marketing in the near future.

Anne Kretschmann, RDP '00

I am working as a wildlife biologist for the Makah Tribe on the tip of the Olympic Peninsula. I am doing marbled murrelet, spotted owl, elk, vegetation, and deer surveys and capture work. It is great work, and I am enjoying being near the sea and mountains. I do miss the southwest though!

Leah Smith, RDP '97 and Brian Gitt, RDP '97

Although only at Prescott for 3 semesters, it has a profound impact on my path.   I studied Agroecology and Environmental Education and completed my thesis to graduate with honors from Pitzer College.   Just as important, I met my husband, Brian Gitt, a Prescott College student as well.   I work for the Marin Food Systems Project working to promote sustainable ag and connections between local farms and the community through education.   Brian works in green building and design.   Together we raise Marcus, Brian's son, who is a wonderful teacher.

Jennifer Dingman, MAP '02

Very shortly after graduating from the Prescott MAP program in December 2002, I found out I would soon be taking on the greatest challenge of my life...a new baby!   Avery Emilyn Matera was born on October 27th, 2003 to myself and my partner Justin Matera in Denver, CO.   She is the most amazing and wonderful little person, and I am so looking forward to this new journey!

Well what can one say about a life that takes you from the mountains of Arizona to the Bay of San Francisco to the wine caves of France! except...MINE! Clearly only a map and compass class with Steve Munsell could have prepared me for such navigation!

Top Five list of things that are new...

1) I'm   living in Paris doing international marketing for Corporate America.

2) I got married in August to an amazing man, who just happens to be a professional French chef (although an American who's Uncle owns NOC so I didn't stray to far from the Prescott standard.

3) I'm retiring from Corporate America in January to travel in S.E. Asia in search of ?? whatever life brings us and the perfect green curry chicken!

4) We are returning to the bay area in the Spring   to sleep on Joe Scanlon's futon (which used to me mine!) until we find a new home.

5) I am missing Prescott more than I have in many years... a sign that I need to get back to my roots - hence the trip to S.E. Asia. Hope life is treating all of you with wonder and amazement.   Let us know when you are in the Bay Area and we'll treat you to dinner at Joe's! Cheers!

Since graduating from PC in 1997 I have received my Masters of Social Work and have moved to Venice, California where I am Director of Family Services for Venice Community Housing Corporation. Two years ago I reunited with an "old love from high school." Joe Warnett and I are getting married February 21, 2004 here in Malibu, California! Joe has been in the film industry for 10 years as an editor for feature films. We love our life here by the ocean. I miss PC and the community there...but have found a nice niche here in Venice/Santa Monica! I would love to hear from any old friends...call or e mail 310-450-0983 or deankatherine@comcast.net or even better, come visit us at our home on the beach! I hope each of you are well and living the dreams you dreamt one afternoon.

Although we still yearn for the climate and landscape of the southwest, our growing family now loves the seasonal changes of Vermont. However, the biggest change as of late is the addition of our second child, Asa Samuel Moskowitz.   Asa was born on June 4, 2003, and I made it back in the nick of time.   I was in the field with a wilderness Leadership course when I received "the call."   Thanks to an intricately detailed contingency plan and a lack of traffic at midnight, I was able to get home, bring my wife Gayle to the hospital, and help deliver the baby less than 45 minutes after we arrived!   Despite the sleep deprivation, we are doing great.   Big brother, three-year-old Eli Mikal, is helpful with Asa as we are busy with work, stacking firewood, putting up the garden, and

preparing for the winter wonderland of Vermont.

I am the Youth Services Director at Mediation Services in Castro Valley, CA.   I train peer mediators at middle and high schools and help implement school's mediation programs.   Last year, I wrote a grant that helped to launch a new Parent-Teen Mediation Service.   The mediation panel is unique because youth and adults pair up to mediate parent-teen issues.   In addition to school mediation trainings, I co-facilitate the Professional Mediation Trainings, lead customized conflict resolution workshops for youth and adults, and mediate cases.   I love my job!   Prescott College's self-directed learning really prepared me to transform what I am passionate about into a fulfilling career.   I have continued mediating ever since I took the "Community Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution" course at Prescott College.   Mediating and training youth to mediate meets my needs for peace and nonviolently resolving conflict through communication. I also attended an international peace camp this summer in Egypt! I was the leader of 4 American youth from the Bay Area. The organization is called Children's International Summer Village (CISV). Check out the website at www.cisv.org .

Alumni WeddingJohn Schmit (RDP '97) and Laurie Dix (ADP '01, former staff) were married on August 2, 2003 in Silverthorne, Colorado. It was a small wedding with about 50 guests...very lovely occasion. Chris and Kelly Sherwin conducted the ceremony, which was just a blessing. We honeymooned in the Bahamas, on both Andros Island and Nassau, diving, snorkeling, kayaking, biking, and, well, of course, honeymooning! Laurie is completing her Masters of Social Work degree in April 2004 at Grand Valley State University and is an intern in the GVSU Counseling and Career Development Center. She is working on a thesis this year around the theme of Wellness Interventions in Social Work Practice. John received his MFA from the University of Iowa, and is currently an Assistant Professor of Film and Video Production at GVSU. He is also developing another documentary on renewable energy. We would love to hear from friends we've lost touch with, and anyone can email either or both of us at: laurie-dix@earthlink.net or jaschmit@earthlink.net

Lorrie Bonds LopezLorrie Bonds Lopez, B.A. '74
April 8, 2003: Lorrie Bonds Lopez New Chief of Staff of Risk Reduction and Environmental Stewardship. Chief of Staff Lorrie Bonds Lopez brings three principle skills to RRES Division: experience in business coaching; experience in negotiation, motivation and implementation; and expertise in the facilitation of organizational change. As a coach, Lorrie consulted business owners and managers to assess organizational functioning and to implement interventions appropriate to improving productivity. Her principal responsibility was to coach executive staff to hone their management and leadership style to more effectively accomplish results.

As a senior consultant, she was responsible for the development of business coaching practices and client programs including executive leadership and management training, performance appraisal systems, employment policies and procedures, time planning and scheduling. As the controller for two companies supplying both domestic and international customers, Lorrie was responsible for all aspects of financial accounting. She later used these skills in her own consulting company preparing financial reports for small businesses and as an account specialist for an international computer firm.

Lorrie's team building and management skills were developed during a decade as a Course Director for Outward Bound managing 26-day wilderness courses. She was responsible for budgeting, staffing, management, logistics, training, field program quality, safety practices and implementation, instructional quality and equipment evaluation and procurement. And for producing the result: having people accomplish seemingly impossible tasks. Responsibilities in her new job include strategic planning and implementation, outreach coordination, division systems, management coaching, communication and space management. Before accepting her current position Lorrie Bonds Lopez worked with the Laboratory's Ombuds Office. She earned her BA degree in education from Prescott College and an MA in counseling psychology from Southwestern College.

I first visited the Prescott College campus in 1969 after a representative from the College spoke to my class at Carl Hayden High School in Phoenix. I decided not to go to college at that point. A few years later I was a founder of Changing Hands Bookstore in Tempe and later Satisfied Mind Bookstore in Prescott. After the demise of Satisfied Mind I decided to finish my BA through the Adult Degree Program. I graduated in January 2003 with a competence in Public History and breadths in Art and Liberal Arts.

In August Rick Taylor (aka Abner) decided to go to Austin to pursue a Master of Science in Information Studies (what used to be a Masters in Library Science) and I was hired to fill his position at the Prescott College Library. I am happy to be here surrounded by the kind of books I offered in my bookstores and the kind of people are making the world a better place.

The big news is I recently started a marketing consulting
firm called bob. ( www.bobcanhelp.com ). My business partner Michael and I conceptualized it over the past year as a firm that will help small and non-profit businesses market themselves sustainably.

What we mean by 'sustainable marketing' is marketing that; (1) creates positive cash flow for a company thus sustaining the company (2) communicates value creatively and honestly (3) takes into account the environmental and social impact of the method and messages used. We don't advocate misleading messages, resource-intensive vehicles or socially irresponsible advertising that encourages over consumption.

This is the culmination of a journey begun at Prescott College that combines the practical with the spiritual and activism with pragmatism. We feel helping good small businesses do better will lead to a more diverse and thus more stable and healthy economy and society. Feel free to check out our website and spread the word.

The bigger news is that I'm getting married on Oct. 16th to a rare Scottish rose (by way of New Jersey) Sherry Bradley! Sherry is the one I've been looking for all this time. We look forward to many years together. Life is good, hope it is with all of you too.

Happy to be back in AZ after some time gallivanting around as a ski bum in Jackson, a short stint as a seasick lobster woman in Maine and then the Assistant Director of an adventure based day camp in Ketchum, ID.   I felt a draw towards stability and a home to live for more than four months and so Flagstaff is it for now. I've taken a job as a Montessori teacher and my multi-age class of 1st , 2nd , and 3rd graders are wonderful.   I'm looking forward to a snow filled winter and some time skiing the volcano.   Please check in if you find yourself in Flag, and remember these words from everyone's favorite bear, Winnie the Pooh: "Some say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day." Cheers!

Hannah (my wife) and Emma (daughter #1, 2yrs. +) were joined by a new family member on August 22 at 7:10am when Phoebe Rydgren Schneider arrived weighing in at chunky 9 lbs and a length 21 inches. Her timing was impeccable as it extended my summer break for a few more days! Family life is great and teaching gets better every year.

After a wonderful three-year experience as the program director of The Boojum Institute, I've made the transition to the classroom environment at Live Oak School in San Francisco.   Live Oak School is a progressive education K-8 independent school in the heart of the city whose learning philosophy is based in experiential education.   No grades, a few tests and lots of hand on activities are the norm - sound familiar? I'm currently teaching Life and Physical Sciences to the 7 th and 8 th grades and starting to develop curriculum n the role of science in environmental studies with a focus on the bay are during my second year.   The school also places an emphasis on maintaining a strong community of students, teachers and families to support the learning that occurs here.   Living in San Francisco has fulfilled a life long dream and I revel in the natural beauty that surrounds the city, the diversity it has and the great culture one can experience here. But how can you not miss Prescott College and the great community there!? Best to all.

After 30 years with Hewlett-Packard, I was offered a package I had to take and retired from HP August 2002. I immediately started my own business doing computer support which includes repair and setting up new computer systems for home users in the west San Francisco Bay Area. The business has been doing well. This year I will be coordinating the 31st annual electric car rally in Palo Alto (my seventh year doing this) on Sept. 20th from 10am to 4pm at Palo Alto High School. This is the largest events of its kind in Northern California. Details can be found at http://eaasv.org. Jill, my wife of 32 years and also an alumni (1970) and I just married off our oldest daughter, Heather on July 4th. Our youngest, Elaine, has two more years in high school. If anyone is in the area, please drop by and I will show you the electric car, electric bike, our solar hot water and photovoltaic system.

Anita Hatch-Miller, B.A. '72
(aka Anita Miller, Nani Miller, Bob Miller's (B.A. '71) sister)
We moved back to Phoenix, from Prescott, where we lived fifteen years, in 1996. Soon thereafter, in 1998, my husband, Jeff Hatch-Miller, decided to run for the Arizona State House of Representatives. I told him I hoped he did not expect me to be "political wifey," that occasionally I might attend an event or two, only if it was very important. Much to my surprise I enjoyed everything about the campaign, the politics, the issues, but most especially meeting all the wonderful people. In 2002, I served as campaign manager for Jeff's successful campaign for the Arizona Corporation Commission. He has just asked me to do that again, so I will head his re-election campaign. Our twin sons Mark and Rob (Prescott natives) will be seniors at Wesleyan CT and New York University, graduating in May 2004. I am involved in a number of community volunteer services, the Paradise Valley Annual Safety Fair, under grounding of neighborhood utilities, and I currently serve as President of First Way of Maricopa County, a non-profit pregnancy support organization which helps pregnant women and their babies and kids. We still miss Prescott, love going back to visit dear friends there, and hope to be back permanently some day.

After graduating from PC in '97, I moved to CA graduate school in Wildlife biology at Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA. After finishing there, I went back to work CA fish and Game. Right now I'm a research biologist studying Aspens in northeast California.

More than concentrating on specific subjects Prescott College really fosters active, skillful, and excited learners. I have used these skills over the past year to earn a Masters in Environmental Law from Vermont Law School. Through this program i have learned to channel the ecological, psychological, and spiritual connections to nature I developed at PC into the language and structure of our legal system.

My plan now is to take the experiential education skills I gained from PC, combine this with common language descriptions of the structure of current law and regulation, and teach passionate and energetic environmental activities to be effective advocates. Thank you PC for giving me the skill to be a life long self directed student and the conscience to do what i can for our earth. I hope all are well and would love to hear from anyone out there.

My wife Gloria and I have our second and last child, Francesco, who is baby brother to his 2.5 year old sister, Anna Catia. We are planning to move to Italy in a few years. Will miss the open spaces of northern California, so am sure to return. I enjoy my contributions to keep California's waters clean, and devoting myself to my 'personal profession', fatherhood. Would love to hear from you. Please visit us when we move to Italia!

On July 8th Miranda and I welcomed Zebediah Lessard into our family. He is 9 pounds and growing and very healthy. His big sister, Ella, wants to take him everywhere, she is now 2 and a half and loves to draw just like her mother. Miranda is taking a year off from teaching to enjoy the kids and relax. I have just been accepted into the University of Vermont's graduate program in special education, and I am blending my work with my studies in restorative education for prison populations (lots of
bar graphs and poetic research papers).

Hi Everyone! I still have so many wonderful memories of my time at Prescott College.
Right now I am a full time Mommy to two little girls, Melanie is three and Morgan is one. I can't wait until they're old enough for me to share my stories of Prescott with them. Hopefully they will want to venture out a bit in their own lives someday.Best wishes to all!!

Melissa Schoerke, RDP '95
Hi folks! Can't really say that I graduated from Prescott in '95, but that was the last time that I was there. Still doing well here in PA. I'm about to begin my 4th year teaching at Westtown School. I'm getting a little tired of teaching and thinking of other options for life. Perhaps becoming a doula or getting more involved with photography. We'll see what happens. Simba (the wonder-cat and perhaps the best thing that I got from Prescott) is well, for those of you that remember the little dear that I pulled out of the tree 719 Gurley Street. He'll be nine this month and weighs his handsome self in at a whopping 15 pounds! I miss those beautiful mountains, but perhaps will find my way out west again one of these days.

Hello All - Since graduating in 1999 I have been numerous places and done numerous things. Started my own non-profit - An experiential healing center called Esperanza. We originated in Scottsdale, AZ and have now relocated to Taos, NM. We provide equine therapy, art therapy, and nature-based therapies. It's been quite an amazing journey. I've just finished my masters in counseling and psychology and am researching Ph.D. programs - Wow - Can't stop staying busy! Anyway, I have lost contact with many of my fellow PC students and would love to hear from any of you someday! Get in touch if possible! Taos is an awesome place to play! Hope all is well in your worlds! Much Love

I am back in my home town, enjoying my new job with the zoo. I run a program called Nocturnal Adventures. We run three overnight programs that highlight animal adaptations, biodiversity, and endangered wildlife. I have missed the water terribly and now am the proud owner of a crossover kayak. When the zoo is not calling in the middle of the night, you can find me out on the water. I love my job, playing with all sorts of "animal ambassadors" and bringing quality environmental education to ages eight to twenty-five.

I am back living in Tucson after spending a year working as a high school guidance counselor in the White Mountains of Arizona. I am currently working for the regional behavioral health authority for southern arizona, basically advocating for members rights (those people in the public mental health system). Since graduating from PC, I lived in Ireland for a couple of years and return whenever I get the chance! I also have my Master's in Counseling and am a certified counselor and a certified school counselor. I love working with the kids and will return to that when I can get back on with a district. Otherwise, things are great and I would love to hear from anyone who cares to write! Saw the update from Sue E-C...email when you get a chance...also Miranda! My best to all!

Hi all- It is hard to believe that a whole year has passed since graduation and that I have completed my first year as a teacher. I hope all is going well for all of my fellow classmates as it is for me. I am so grateful for those I went to school with and not to forget Ellen and Chris who I am quite sure were glad to have me graduate. No more frantic phone calls! :)
Thanks to you all.

Hello Prescott! I am constantly impressed with the important work Prescott College Students and alumni are accomplishing. I am living in my recently purchased home in Northern California and love living in this beautiful place. Most of my free time is spent exploring the Rivers through out the West, thanks to an inspiring class I took at Prescott that introduced me to rafting. I hope the school is doing well and it seems like it has stayed the course regarding its educational philosophy and the incredible opportunities it offers the students.

Amy Kirk, RDP '92
Hello! I just returned to the northeast with my partner of eight years, Sarah, our dachsund Sophie, and several feathered friends! We are living in Providence, RI and enjoying a more "town" lifestyle after six years in the (expensive) urban paradise of San Francisco! After earning my Masters in English at SF State, I continue to pursue my theater interests, writing plays and producing performance projects (I won an OOBR Award last year for my play "Evergreen"--that's Off Off Broadway, in case you didn't know!), and teach writing and literature courses as an adjunct professor at several colleges and universities here. I work a day job at a local university as a community service coordinator, linking students with service-learning projects in the community--a concept similar to the "experiential learning" ideals at PC. Working in a variety of academic settings, I continue to recall PC with fondness and attempt to apply some of my experiences there to my work here as a teacher and service coordinator! But enough about me: I'm so glad to see there are more writing and performance courses offered at Prescott College...Bravo!!!

The last 4 years, from '99 to '03 I spent running my own landscaping company in Prescott. I have just let go of that business and am now in Indiana spending time with my sister and her family. I am about to head back to New Jersey where I grew up, and will be looking for work doing anything interesting. if anyone knows of a great job let me know! I'm more than willing to relocate to wherever work is, preferably in the northeast. If anyone wants to contact me, please email at: ramybeth@yahoo.com. Would love to hear from Maureen Sweeney, Susan Brenner (and Scott, and the little one)Bari in Hawaii and anyone else.

After graduating from Prescott College I decided to pursue medicine and moved to Gainesville, Florida. I just graduated on May 24th from the University of Florida College of Medicine and will start residency here in Gainesville in June. It is a three year program in Family and Community Medicine. I miss Prescott! No mountains out here, but I am two hours from the beach. 213 NW 8th St. #1; Gainesville, FL 32601

Since leaving PC, I have worked as a kayak, raft, and climbing guide in Canada, the US, and Honduras. Recently (2000) I graduated from Fort Lewis College in Durango with a degree in physics and received my Colorado Teaching endorsement for secondary science. Even more importantly, I am married to a wonderful woman named Alice and have two beautiful sons, Harley and Liam. I teach physics, chemistry, geography and math at Miller Middle School and am on the Durango Fire and Rescue Authority as a firefighter. Things are killer and I miss my PC friends dearly. If you are in Durango, please call. Have a good one!

For the past six years I have been raising (or being raised by) my daughter Charlene (6) and my son Fallon (4). Both are truly amazing. I have been blessed. I am currently pursuing my masters in Microbiology and certification for medical technology/ laboratory science at APSU in Clarksville, TN. If all goes well I am done next spring. The educational process at a State run University makes me wistful for my days at PC. But I do have to say my professors at APSU are as interested in me as a person as were my professors at Prescott College. I guess I have been very lucky. Honoring the learning processes of the individual can be lost in overly institutionalized educational systems.

Hi everyone! I'm now living as of September in West Virginia. I'm working wilderness therapy at the Alldredge Academy. I am spending a ton of time in the woods. I also am engaged to Carie Way who I met the summer of 2001 working at Voyageur Outward Bound in Ely, Minnesota. We are getting married October 11 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. I have off in April and hope to dig myself out of the snow and make it to the warmer climates of Arizona for the month. I miss Prescott a whole lot. Its weird to think myself, Peter Pomerantz, Ryan Witbeck & Erin Pawliger, all housemates of mine from the Sunset house, are all getting married this year.
