Centaur Leadership Services - bringing horses and people together Paul Smith, Director Group Photo Bibliography Database Administration

Welcome

Centaur Leadership Services (CLS) offers Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) and Equine Assisted Mental Health (EAMH) programs for community youth, undergraduates studying leadership, education, and human development, and graduate students pursuing a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling Psychology with a focus in EAMH.

Our philosophy is that through conscious relationship with horses, people are able to develop self awareness, emotional congruence, and healthy ways of being.

Through intentional facilitation of the inherent healing power and intuition of horses, and in combination with the therapeutic value of natural settings, Centaur Leadership Services seeks to provide a venue for increased personal awareness, shared growth and academic learning.

Mission Statement:

Centaur Leadership Services brings together people and horses to foster the awareness, skills, and qualities that are essential for being fully human.

Vision Statement:

Centaur Leadership Services facilitates collaboration between public, private and service-based organizations to foster growth and learning, and to serve as a center for exploration through work with horses. The program provides opportunities for partnerships with horses, programs for individuals, families and youth, and serves as an equine resource for the education and training of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as professional certifications.

The News Corner

Congratulations to the Chauncey Ranch 2008 Summer Staff and Horses for a safe and successful summer!

Over 800 kids benefited from your time, skills and integrity, and experienced a summer they will never forget!

  • Horsemanship, Leadership and Exploratory Writing: A CLS/Northpoint Collaboration
Students will live and work together at Chauncey Ranch in Mayer, Arizona for ten days. This co-ed program will combine the best practices of adventure education, relational horsemanship, and independent living skills, and offers students the opportunity to work with horses to explore their own personal values, strengths and leadership abilities. Ground-based and mounted activities with horses, short essays and guided personal reflections encourage students to explore what it means for them to be the leader they want to be for their horse as well as in their own life. The Oxford Youth Leadership Program is integrated into the curriculum, and students conclude their experience by creating an action plan for transferring their growth and learning back to their home and school. Students will stay in the historic Stone House where the likes of John Wayne and Roy Rogers have laid their heads, and will cook all meals together after their herd of horses have been fed!
  • Centaur Leadership Services and the Prescott College Master of Arts Program welcome Laura Brinkerhoff as the new Associate Faculty for Counseling Psychology and Equine-Assisted Mental Health

  • CLS also welcomes the 16 incoming students in the Resident Degree Program who are participating in the 2nd Annual Equine-based Wilderness Orientation August 25th - September 19th at Chauncey Ranch!
