Taking the Reins is a one-day experiential workshop specifically designed to support your process of change. Join master group process facilitator Dr. Sharon Grady and veteran horse professional Bonnie Ebsen Jackson of Teaching Humans with Equine Ranch at a serene ranch location in Skull Valley, AZ for an empowering day of skill building and problem solving. Lunch will be provided along with a notebook filled with useful ideas to help you on your journey. Our program consists of group activities and hands-on ground work with horses. No horse background necessary - This is a non-riding event.
- Workshop for the Training and Experience of Interpersonal Equine Therapy
Interpersonal Equine Therapeutic intervention is based on analyzing the process and content of the social interaction between horse and client. By virtue of deepening the connection between horse and client and analyzing the social interactions between them (based on the components of affiliation and influence), behaviors that are socially dysfunctional can be replaced by more effective social behaviors. The rewards of a healthy cooperative interpersonal relationship and the deepening of that relationship continue to motivate the client to work through disruptive dynamics. The goal is to learn new negotiation tools without depending on dysfunctional coping skills and dynamics. The power of the client's connection with the horse serves to maintain high motivation for interpersonal success while giving continuous feedback on the effectiveness of the client's interpersonal techniques. The efficacy of the interpersonal equine connection in working with many different client presentations and incorporating different types of treatment modalities makes this therapeutic approach inexhaustible.

- From Action to Insight: Experiential Counseling Strategies that Work
Drawing from the fields of gestalt therapy, adventure-based counseling, drama therapy, and equine-assisted mental health, this intensive 3-day workshop is designed to provide students of counseling a dynamic hands-on experience with experiential approaches to counseling. Emphasis will be placed on how to most effectively process various interactive therapeutic experiences with individuals, families, and groups in order to help clients achieve their goals. The relationship between treatment planning and the use of experiential therapeutic interventions will also be addressed. A mixture of direct instruction, personal experience, role-playing, and critical reflection will help participants strengthen their counseling skills and gain confidence as clinicians. By the end of the workshop, participants should have a better understanding of several different experiential counseling strategies, theories, and skills to help support and amplify their master’s level course work.

- Facilitation for Transformation: the art of supporting growth and change
This workshop will allow you to recognize and appreciate your facilitation style and challenge you to take the necessary risks to explore and develop a deeper capacity to support and facilitate change. Emphasis will be placed on the following topics: pre and on-going assessment, creating connection, emotional congruence, supporting emotional risk taking, the use of the metaphor, framing-intervention and debriefing the experience and techniques to enhance transference.
