Centaur Leadership Services draws from Prescott College's rich history of 40 years of quality experiential education, and combines it with the best practices in horsemanship and equine-assisted learning. We train camp staff to work safely and effectively with campers and with each other, maximizing the lessons that your campers take away from thier time spent at the barn.
Programs need to be safe to be sustainable
Safety is the number one priority for horse programs. Horsemen and women who apply to work as camp staff frequently come from a wide range and variety of experiences, and bring with them their own "ways" of working with horses. The Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) sets an industry standard in horsemanship, and our curriculum is designed to teach and reinforce CHA's high standards and practices. We bring together your staff and get them all on the same page - the page that your safety guidlines require - through lessons, demonstrations, handouts, and roleplays in line with CHA standards. We will do an initial hands-on skills evalutation to focus the training on the needs of your staff, and let you know about staff members who may require extra attention or training beyond the scope of regular "staff training" to work safely with your campers.
Parents send kids to camp to have fun - and also to learn and grow
The field of Adventure Education, learning through experiences, has been around since Kurt Hahn founded Outward Bound in the 1930's. For the last 75 years, educators have been studying what gives adventure-based experiences the power to impact youth in such a powerful way, and refining the methods of delivering these important experiences. Your camp is growing and shaping children into who they will become. And the more they get out of all of the great things they do at camp, the more they'll want to come back, and the more the parents will want to send them back year after year. Our goal is to give your staff the tools to help campers get the most out of everything they do, inspiring curiosity, stretching their comfort zone, and reflecting on what they've accomplished and learned in the process.
Teamwork and Communication are Crucial
