Centaur Mental Health Services
At Centaur Mental Health Services, we provide individuals, groups, and families with support and motivation for personal growth and change through structured interactions with horses. This experiential approach to therapy includes horses as a way to help people identify and address a variety of challenges including communication, relationship, and behavioral difficulties as well as addiction and victimization issues. Our highly qualified staff of therapists and horses provides a unique and enjoyable way to create positive personal change.

Sharon Grady, PhD Clinical Coordinator
Sharon Grady has over 25 years experience as an active learning specialist. With a master’s degree and PhD in applied theatre from the University of Wisconsin, Sharon went on to become an associate professor and the director of several community-based programs at the University of Texas in Austin including Arts in Communities, Drama for Schools, and Imagine Safer Schools. Her work with gang-affiliated youth in south Texas convinced her to pursue a second Master’s degree in Counseling and Psychology with an emphasis in equine-assisted mental health. After extensive experience facilitating equine- assisted counseling services with children and families in rural New Mexico, Sharon is pursuing licensure as a professional counselor in Arizona. In addition to serving as the clinical coordinator of Centaur Mental Health Services, she is also a guest faculty member at Prescott College.
Tony Himes, LMFT Clinical Director

Tony Himes received his master’s degree in counseling and educational psychology from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. He is a state licensed marriage and family therapist who has been in the field of counseling for the past 20 years. Tony has an extensive history of working with teens, young adults, families, couples and groups in various settings including therapeutic boarding schools, therapeutic foster care, residential treatment programs and private practice. In addition to serving as clinical director for Centaur Mental Health Services, he is also a guest faculty member at Prescott College.
Melissa Carey, Horse Professional
Melissa has been riding and working with horses for over twenty years. She competed on the east coast in the "A" hunter-jumper circuits and has taught both english and western riding, as well as relational horsemanship. She is certified EAGALA level 1, a CHA Level 3 Instructor in English, Western and Jumping, and has extensive experience working with horses to promote communication, team building, self-esteem and personal healing.
