For Winter Block 2012, I took Digital Storytelling with Dr. Dana Oswald. As is the standard at PC, it was my responsibility to conceive of what I wanted to express with my project, and then to make it happen.
I wanted to tell an acutely honest and personal story about an illness I suffered from as a teenager and the treatment that brought me back to health. My project was three times as large as what was expected, but if I was going to do it, I was going to do it right.
When my digital story was complete, I shared it with my friends and family. Little did I know, I had a step-aunt who worked for MTV. My step-grandfather forwarded my video to her, and she liked it enough to ask me if I wanted to intern with her department.
The decision to follow a big idea through in a single course at Prescott College led me to an incredible opportunity. So, don’t let expectations limit you. Reach for your outer limits, and you might be surprised by how much you can accomplish.
