Three Conceptual Designs Presented

“The Café in Garden Scheme”
This scheme includes a two structure configuration with a landscaped garden as a central focus. The information commons is found as a two story configuration with an open mezzanine level comprising the second floor. The café and community meeting room is found on the ground level of the second structure, allowing for an interconnection between the café, meeting room, information commons and garden spaces. The café is set amidst the garden in an orientation that blends seamlessly into the natural space. Second floor finds classrooms with a view out onto the garden space and ‘green’ roof of the café. Both structures are connected with a pedestrian bridge which will facilitate the flow from one building to the other.

“The Bridge Scheme”
This scheme includes a single structure, ‘bridged’ by a second level which allows entry into the garden below. The information commons is found as a single level to the north. The southern portion of the building contains the café. The community meeting room is found as a second level above the information commons and contains a terrace overlooking the garden below. The ‘bridge’ is created by the spanning classroom section that connects the second level of the north and south portions of the building.

“The Stacked Scheme”
This scheme attempts to incorporate the majority of functions into a single, larger structure, with the café as a smaller building located across the garden to the south. The northern building will contain three levels with the information commons making up the first level. The community meeting space is found on level two with the classrooms on the top floor. As with the other schemes, the roof of the café is developed as a living roof system and the gardens are integrated as social spaces.
