The schematic design contains the same functional areas
of: Information Commons, Café, Classrooms, Garden, and a Community
Meeting Room through an extension of the Café
in the Garden Scheme presented during conceptual design. It continues
to incorporate a two structure configuration with a landscaped garden
as a central focus. The information commons is found as a two story configuration
with an open mezzanine level comprising the second floor. The café
and community meeting room is found on the ground level of the second
structure, allowing for an interconnection between the café, meeting
room, information commons and garden spaces. The café is set amidst
the garden in an orientation that blends seamlessly into the natural space.
The second floor finds classrooms with a view out onto the garden space,
roof vegetable garden, and ‘green’ roof of the café.
Both structures are connected with a pedestrian bridge which will facilitate
the flow from one building to the other. The project also will incorporate
the highest possible commitment to environmental and social responsibility
and is targeted toward LEED certification at the Gold or Platinum level.
