New Green Living on Campus
Opening Fall 2012
Just as growth in nature is perceived as beautiful and healthy, so too can growth in the built environment be considered both productive and beneficial when pursued with the ideals of social and environmental sustainability.
True Community
Freshman-year students will be living and studying with like-minded peers who share their same interests. Students have shared courses with the other Village community members during their freshman year fostering bonds that can last a lifetime. Peer mentors, faculty and Student Life staff will all work to support students during their transitional year at Prescott College.
There is connectedness that comes from living, studying and socializing with people who have the same academic and life goals as you do. The energy is more positive and grades tend to be higher because everyone works together. The Campus Village Apartments come with a built-in personal cheerleading squad – your co-villagers. Who couldn’t use that?
“More and more of our students are first-time college students coming to us straight from home,” said Jack Herring, Dean of On-Campus Undergraduate Programs at Prescott College. “There’s a need for a lot of transitional support as these young people start their journey into adulthood. The housing is an integral and tangible piece of that support system.”

True Sustainability
The Prescott College Village Apartments were designed to give back to the community. All the
apartments feature solar energy technology, Energy Star appliances, high-efficiency lighting, low-flow
water fixtures, rainwater catchments and storage for irrigation of landscaping. All of this will ensure that
the buildings generate more than 100 percent of their own power and help provide resources to other campus buildings, lessening the school's carbon footprint.
“With these measures,” said President Woolever, “we’re walking our talk about the environment and
sustainability. Also, we are helping students to understand and take responsibility for the systems many
people normally take for granted.”
Landscape design will include preservation of existing native trees, planting of new native plants,
courtyard spaces with fruit trees and edible gardens, rainwater irrigation, and screening structures to
minimize visual impact on surrounding residents.
