In the summer of 2001 a Diversity Committee was created to define, foster, and sustain diversity at Prescott College. As of the 2004/05 academic year Prescott College has a newly active and widely inclusive Diversity Coalition, which is an outgrowth of the work of the Diversity Committee.
Between the months of September and April, the Coalition meets on the first Tuesday of each month, from 1:00 - 2:30 and again from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m., in room 103 of the Prescott College Crossroads Center. (The two times are to accomdate schedules; a single meeting time will be chosen in the spring.) We begin with an open forum to network and brainstorm ideas. The evening meeting is followed at 7:30 by the Celebrate Diversity Film Festival, which each month presents a different film that celebrates and honors living beings.
All members of the Prescott College community as well as the local Prescott community are invited to participate in the Diversity Coalition. Our goal is clear: to define, foster, sustain, and celebrate diversity at Prescott College. Our methods are infinite. Everyone is invited to come with ideas and projects, concerns and dreams, and most of all enthusiastic energy to work together to realize our extraordinary goal. We are a coalition because we want other socially conscious organizations and socially active individuals from our community to join us. As a coalition we can support and celebrate the work each of us does for and in our own quarter, as together we compound our energy and strength as activists!
Please join us at 1:00 or 6:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in Crossroads room 103. Or just come at 7:30 for a great movie in a room filled with a diverse gathering of socially conscious and motivated folks. Bring pillows or blankets or whatever you need to get comfy as you settle in for a cozy night of celebration and action for diversity at Prescott College!
Community members are encouraged to check here frequently for updates on undertakings of the Diversity Coalition. In addition the coalition welcomes all suggestions and questions from the community. Please contact me at jclingan@prescott.edu.
