Les McAllan, Ph.D., CRC, NCC is Core Faculty for the Counseling and Psychology Masters of Arts Program. Prior to coming to Prescott College, Dr. McAllan was employed for fourteen years as an Assistant Professor in the Rehabilitation Counselor Education Program at the University of Arizona in Tucson. As a faculty member he was involved in bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral, continuing, and international education. He is an Arizona licensed psychologist, a National Certified Counselor, a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, an educator, and an international speaker. He has been a practicing counselor and psychologist in a variety of settings for 30 years, a counselor educator for 24 years, and a consultant and motivational speaker for 10 years. Les has had extensive practical experience in various state rehabilitation agencies, private rehabilitation provider agencies, private counseling and consulting practices, AIDS service organizations and academic settings, including teaching in both long-term training and continuing education programs.
During the last decade he has been developing courses that are delivered utilizing videoconferencing and web-based learning communities. Dr. McAllan also has been involved with national and state counselor certification and licensing organizations as well as counselor education program accreditation activities. He enjoys creating caring and safe environments for people to find and test their inner strengths and knowledge. He has conducted workshops in counseling, communication, teamwork, health and wellness, death and loss, stress management, basic interviewing and listening skills, and developing and maintaining caring relationships. In his private practice, Dr. McAllan specializes in working with persons with severe disabilities, persons with AIDS/HIV, gay and lesbian clients and persons experiencing a variety of losses. Finally, Les has developed a special interest in ecopsychology and infuses nature, empowerment, spiritual centeredness, and a global consciousness perspective into all of his activities. He is extremely happy to be a part of the Prescott College learning community!
