Visuals Arts Program at Prescott College

The Visual Arts program is housed within the Arts and Letters program at Prescott College.  The Visual Arts program encompasses a variety of disciplines including Photographic Studies, Digital Arts, Studio Arts and Art History/Theory, providing students with a range of technical methodologies and emphasizing a commitment to scholarship.

Students studying the Visual Arts are encouraged to act creatively and think critically.  The interdisciplinary curriculum encourages students to address issues such as social politics, environmental welfare, and personal content in their artwork.  A range of curricular offerings, from beginning to advanced courses, enable students to develop technical skills from foundation work to mastery in each discipline. The program emphasizes a firm understanding of various fine arts and photographic media; an awareness of historical and theoretical issues and concepts; and development of personal vision, creativity, and expression.

Prescott College’s Visual Arts program differs from many institutions by enabling students to work one-on-one with instructors in their chosen medium; emphasizing experiential learning and providing real world, professional experience; offering extended access to studios and equipment; and encouraging students to develop professional portfolios and establish post-baccalaureate goals.  After completing their senior project, graduates often have a portfolio ready for submission to graduate programs or other professional work.
