Annual Scholarship Fund Campaign 2007-08

annual fund

Dear Friends of the College,

Prescott College is an institution that is heavily invested in the future- we set out to teach ways that our students can change not only their lives, but also the world. As it’s President, I have one primary obligation: to help insure that any students who are willing to dedicate themselves to serving the common good can attend Prescott College, regardless of their ability to pay.

This year, I’m asking you to help us transform our Annual Fund into the Annual Scholarship Fund. Every dollar donated will directly finance the education of a Prescott College student. Our $300,000 goal will assist the 70% of students currently in need of financial aid to receive a Prescott College education without the crushing debt facing many college graduates.

Please contribute to our Annual Scholarship Fund knowing that the students you help are coming to Prescott College to make the world better for all of us.

Appreciatively Yours,

Dan

Dan Garvey

Daniel E. Garvey, Ph.D.

President

Prescott College

Why Prescott College?

  • Princeton Review gave Prescott College the highest academic rating in the state of Arizona.
  • Prescott College was recently featured in Time Magazine as a “green” alternative to Harvard.
  • Prescott College offers education and research opportunities around the world, and has established field stations in locations as diverse as Kino Bay, Mexico and Massailand, Kenya.
  • As a member of the Ecoleague- the only college consortium in the United States dedicated to environmental learning and the active pursuit of environmental studies- the college offers students exciting opportunities to study human and natural systems from Maine to Alaska.

Why Scholarships?

  • 70% of Prescott College students receive financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants and federal and private loans.
  • This fiscal year the college will award four times more funding in the form of private and federal loans than in grants and scholarships. This is despite increasing support for grants and scholarships by 96% in the past two years.

Our students work to make the world a better place. Help us reach our $300,000 goal by making your gift to the Annual Scholarship Fund today!

FAQ's

When Will I Be Asked to Support the Annual Scholarship Fund?
You will receive an Annual Scholarship Fund solicitation letter in the fall.  We will remind you from time to time throughout the year to contribute your annual gift, and we will include gift reply cards in each copy of Transitions, the Prescott College magazine that will be sent to you in fall, spring and summer.

In addition to written appeals for support, the Alumni Office hosts a student Phonathon in early spring. This is a chance for you to speak directly to a student on campus, to hear about campus life now, and to pledge your support to the Annual Scholarship Fund.

Once you make a gift or pledge to the Annual Fund at any time during the College's fiscal year, we no longer send Annual Fund appeals for the remainder of the year, although from time to time we may send an additional appeal inviting donors to support a special project.

What are the dates of Prescott College's Fiscal Year?
The Prescott College fiscal year begins on July 1 of each year and closes on June 30.

Can I Specify How My Gift Will be Spent?
Yes! If there is a specific program or activity that you would like to support with your gift, please make a note of this when you make your gift. However, unrestricted gifts are always greatly appreciated; they provide the College freedom to direct your support to the budget priorities outlined for the fiscal year.

I really can't afford a $100.00 gift right now, is there another way I can give to Prescott College?

Monthly giving options are now available through our Giving website. You may break a $100.00 gift into 10 or even 20 monthly or biweekly payments and have it come from either your checking account or credit card. Gifts of any size can be broken into as many payments as desired.

Why is Alumni Participation in the Annual Scholarship Fund Important?
In addition to the invaluable support the Annual Fund provides for operating expenses, scholarship funds, library resources, technology improvements, faculty development, and facilities management, the Annual Fund is seen by many as a barometer of the state of the College. Many foundations and other grant making organizations consider size of the Fund and the percent of alumni participation as a means of measuring a College's stature and stability. College guidebooks and recruiting organizations see the Annual Fund as an indicator of alumni satisfaction. Alumni who support the Annual Fund at any level help support the internal operations of the College and augment all of the College's outreach activities.
