La Pandilla Ecológica: Primary School Ecology Club
". . . connecting students to their food source."
In 2010, after 13 years of work with the EEP, a teacher at one of the primary schools took the initiative to form an ecology club, La Pandilla Ecológica, for students in grades 1 - 6. The students of La Pandilla Ecológica work within the context of their school to raise awareness among their friends about changing their habits to protect human and natural communities. They meet once a week during school to work on various projects with support of members of the preparatory ecology club Xapoo. Recently a Prescott College student worked with the group to facilitate the construction of two gardens for vegetables and flowers at the school. The food they produce will be donated to the school cafeteria, not only providing healthy food for the students, but also connecting students to their food source.
