How the Graduate Teaching Assistant Program Works

Limited-Residency Master of Arts Graduate Teaching Assistant Program

Class on the Colorado River 2,

In the first term of their graduate study, all GTAs in all programs must enroll in the required three-credit residential graduate cohort course, Experiential Education Theory, Method, and Practice at Prescott College: Preparing for a Successful Graduate Teaching Assistantship. (GTAs can include practicum credits in their spring term study plans, but this is not required).  The cohort course and practicum supervision seminars are taught by a MAP Core Faculty, PhD Faculty, or PhD Associate Faculty assigned by the Dean of Graduate Programs as the GTAP Director to oversee cohort learning.

In addition to enrolling in the required GTA fall course, GTAs may be required to enroll in the Environmental Studies, Adventure Education, Education, Counseling Psychology, or Humanities foundations course taught by the program chairpersons for new students in their first term.  They are required to meet all other Limited-Residency Master of Arts Program degree requirements.  In order to remain eligible for GTA funding, GTAs must be enrolled as full time graduate students each consecutive term, be involved in 1-2 On-Campus Undergraduate courses each term as a teaching assistant, co-instructor, or lead instructor, and maintain good academic standing and satisfactory academic progress throughout their programs of study.
