Photography Program at Prescott College
A program developing techniques and skills for the Social Artist
Photography instigates change, becomes a language for discovery and an instrument for expression and communication. Integrative Photographic Studies at Prescott College offers a comprehensive examination of visual literacy, which focuses on the creative potential of lens-based imaging. Our courses emphasize both analog and digital approaches to image making and offer a curriculum designed to introduce students to the technical, theoretical and historical framework, as well as the artistic and social potential of the photographic medium. Additionally, the photography area welcomes an interdisciplinary approach to the medium encouraging the incorporation of video, film, sound, performance, and installation. We emphasize the student's personal growth through aesthetic and intellectual development. This rigorous education in contemporary artistic and cultural practices, accentuated by classes in photographic and art history, enables students to develop a critical understanding of how photography shapes, informs and reflects our world.
