Foundations of College Success

Foundations of College Success is a non-credit course that provides students the opportunity to gain deeper understanding into their unique set of cognitive abilities and to use this as the basis for a course of training designed to support success in college coursework. It is based on the assumption that all motivated students are capable, with the proper support, of improving the fundamental, underlying skills that can create barriers to academic achievement.

Module 1:  The first three-week module of the course takes place before the student enters Prescott College for their first term of enrollment. Students complete this module from home through a mentored study process with a Prescott College instructor. It begins with a detailed cognitive evaluation that examines over two dozen factors that are known to be key components of successful learning. Students will then receive a personalized review of the results. After one-on-one consultation, a training regime will be provided to the student to address their specific learning needs. This training takes advantage of areas that students are strong in and uses those skills to build the student’s abilities in specific areas of challenge.

Module 2:  The second module of the course begins after the Prescott College orientation and lasts through the student’s first semester. It begins with an in-person one-on-one consultation where the results from Module 1 will be reviewed. This consultation will be the basis for the design of the training exercises that the student will complete over the course of the subsequent semester. The student will receive on-going support during the semester, and the outcome of the training program will be reviewed in a final consultation at the end of the semester.

This course is open to all students who have been admitted to Prescott College. It is offered in the summer and fall terms. This program is provided in partnership with SOI Systems.
