PRESCOTT COLLEGE OFFERS CHILDREN'S ART WORKSHOP
Prescott College is currently enrolling for a new Children's Art Workshop
to be held on Saturdays in April. The workshop is open to local students,
from 9 to 12 years of age with an interest in art and the world around them.
The workshop theme will be "Art and the Environment."
"Nature has long been a subject for great art," said Deborah Ford,
a visual arts faculty member at Prescott College and a certified art specialist. "We
will use nature as our starting point to create art. Children will enjoy
time outside as well as in the art studio, and we will observe and respond
to the world around us through art making activities."
Prescott College students studying art education will facilitate the workshop
under Ford's supervision.
"One of the objectives of this workshop is to combine community outreach
with real world experience for pre-service art teachers," said Ford. "This
program enhances what is currently being practiced in schools while providing
another option for young people within the community for art practice."
During the workshop, participants will work in a variety of art media, on
individual projects and group collaborations and take short field trips.
The workshop will meet the five Saturdays in April, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
in Studio A of the Summit Building, 122 Summit St. There is a $15 fee. For
more information about the Children's Art Workshop, contact Deborah Ford
