PC STUDENT AWARDED PRIZE IN "WHY DON'T WE VOTE?" NATIONAL ESSAY CONTEST

Prescott, Ariz. - Emily Talmage, a senior at Prescott College from Merrimac, Mass., was awarded an Honorable Mention in the "Why don't we vote?" national essay contest.

The question was posed by the Center for Voting and Democracy and the Chicago-based Midwest Democracy Center earlier this year. They received nearly 9,000 essays from young Americans across the nation.

Talmage's 1,000-word essay examined the issue of political participation by young people and possible changes to the electoral system and was one of 12 essays awarded a prize.

Talmage is studying environmental education at Prescott College, in Prescott, Ariz.
