Rental Agencies

Listed below are rental agencies that have served our students for years and may help you find affordable housing in the area.

Do I rent before or after Wilderness Orientation?
This is strictly up to you! For peace of mind and security, we recommend renting before you leave for Wilderness Orientation. A disadvantage might be that you may not know your roommate until you arrive. The only thing you will know is that it will be a new Prescott College student like yourself. This is typical for most colleges. You may pay an extra month’s rent, but you will have a place to return to after Wilderness Orientation. This may make things simpler for you as a student.

Your next option is to look for housing during Student Directed Days, which occurs the week before classes begin. The advantage to this option besides saving money is that you can look for housing with the friends you made on Wilderness Orientation. The disadvantage is you may have to live out of a motel room for a week or more until you find housing and you will be focusing on the housing search and not preparing for your academic studies. You will have to do the footwork by calling each utility company and paying for hook-ups, as well as possibly being in a rental without utilities until they can be switched on for you.

Prescott College Guarantor's Agreement (Third Party Agreement)
Prescott College offers a Guarantor's Agreement, assuring that the College stands behind the student and that the student's obligations to the landlord will be met. Students are responsible for reimbursing any costs the College pays on their behalf, and for paying a processing fee, before they can continue at Prescott College or have official transcripts prepared.

The Housing Coordinator is available to mediate with students and landlords, or students and roommates, to help find satisfactory solutions concerning rental and living arrangements. The Coordinator also makes the decision on whether the student has or has not fulfilled their obligations. The Coordinator has full authority to assess unmet financial obligation by the student.

Arizona Residential Landlord & Tenant Act (updated with laws effective August 25, 2004).

This is an excellent tool for all tenants and landlords in Arizona. Student Life recommends that you know your rights as a new member of this community.  This booklet is published by Jan Brewer, Arizona Secretary of State.
