Students and Advisors who plan to present at the May 9-11 , 2008 colloquium must read over this page and submit the information detailed below by March 28 , 2008; descriptions that are received after the due date (after the schedule has been put together) will not be included. The colloquium schedule is emailed to current students and advisors approximately 3 weeks prior to each colloquium.
Advisors — In general, faculty workshops are scheduled on Saturday and Sunday mornings and Saturday afternoons in the August and February colloquia, and on Sunday mornings in the November and May colloquia. We can be flexible to accommodate travel needs. Please note that while we like to have faculty presentations in each of the five programs (Environmental Studies, Adventure Education, Education, Counseling Psychology, and Humanities), we encourage and appreciate faculty workshops that are interdisciplinary in nature. Contact your core or associate faculty if you would like to discuss presentation possibilities. If you are planning to present, please keep in mind that the advisor presentation stipend is based on the following criteria: the presentation is a minimum of 80 minutes in length and was created for the Master of Arts Program. Co-presentations qualify if the advisor designs and presents at least half of the content. There is a smaller stipend for participation in panel presentations.

Students — In general, student presentations are scheduled on Friday afternoon in the August and February colloquia and thesis presentations on Friday and Saturday afternoons in the November and May colloquia. Exceptions can be made to accommodate advisors’ travel schedules or with other appropriate justification. All student presentations must be approved by the graduate advisor and CF/AF prior to submission for inclusion in the schedule. A written proposal for the qualifying or thesis presentation should be included in the semester’s study/thesis plan, or submitted to the faculty as soon in the semester as possible. Students should allow adequate time for faculty consideration and must meet the CFP deadline to be included in a colloquium schedule.
Group presentations: Current students (Groups 31 and earlier) choosing to do the current group presentation at a colloquium will need to arrange the student group, collaboratively plan the session, and present it during a February or August colloquium by the Spring 2008 semester. Groups must consist of 3 – 6 current MAP students. 80 minutes will be allotted for each group; more time may be scheduled for field-based workshops. Group presentations should be thematic and present interdisciplinary concepts, though the group members may be from the same program area.
Qualifying presentations: Current students (Groups 31 and earlier) who opt to do the new (as of fall 2007) qualifying presentation instead should note that it requires a proposal that must be approved by the student’s advisor and CF/AF prior to convening the presentation. See guidelines here.
A poster session presentation is one of the ways by which MAP students may meet the requirement of a qualifying presentation. Poster sessions will be held at the August and February MAP colloquia. An area will be set aside for display of the posters, and people will be free to wander through to view the displays when they have free time. There will also be a specific time when the people doing poster presentations must be at their displays to discuss and interact with viewers. The specific guidelines for poster sessions can be reviewed here.
Thesis presentations: Thesis presentations will be scheduled for the November and May colloquia. The presentation of the thesis must be done during the student’s final thesis or thesis extension semester. The thesis presentation must be proposed to and approved by the advisor and CF/AF prior to convening. Students who plan to complete the program in an upcoming semester must submit their thesis presentation description by the appropriate deadline.
