General Directions:
The first step in the process of better understanding how to conduct research with living subjects is to become familiar with the MAP IRB Policy.
Once the student has become familiar with the MAP IRB Policy and the decision has been made (see IRB Decision Tree) that living subjects will be included in the research activity, the student should complete the online Human Subjects Research Protection Training Course and print out the certificate of completion. It is strongly recommended that all MAP students complete this online course as part of their required Research Methods course before they even begin thinking about their research projects.
All students conducting research with living subjects must submit a completed and signed IRB Proposal Review Form. Attached to the Proposal Review Form should be appropriate documents. Samples of these documents could include: Informed Consent, HIPPA Consent, Consent for a Minor, and/or Site Authorization as appropriate.
Reviewers are expected to provide feedback about the IRB Proposal Review Form utilizing the IRB Evaluation Worksheet. It may be helpful for the student to review this form while preparing the IRB Proposal Review Form.
