Cultural Ecopsychology:  Issues of Displacement and the Urban African Community

Jeanine M. Canty is Core Faculty for the Adult Degree Programs at Prescott College In addition, she teaches Educating for the Future: Environmental and Cultural Issues; counsels students in documenting their life experience for college credit; and has worked as Adjunct Faculty for Naropa University. Jeanine was recently sponsored by Rotary International on a Group Study Exchange for Young Professionals to Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Bahrain.

She is passionate about both environmental and cultural issues, focusing on the role culture plays in developing a sustainable world view. She is very interested in the process individuals go through to reach heightened awareness of environmental and social justice. She has a MA in Cultural Ecopsychology from Prescott College, a BA in International Relations from Colgate University, and is currently working on her Ph. D. through the California Institute for Integral Studies (CIIS). Much of her understanding has come through her experience as a African American woman living in privileged communities.
