Lorayne Meltzer
M.S.
Most of the conservation issues challenging society today are multicultural, interdisciplinary, and complex. One of the most exciting endeavors of my career has been to empower students to become active and collaborative participants in facing these challenges.

Research
Lorayne's research focuses on the ecological, social and economic impacts of high rates of by-catch associated with shrimp trawling in the Sea of Cortez. Her professional activities as co-director and research coordinator at the Kino Bay Center focus on building collaborative and multi-cultural initiatives to develop community-based solutions to economic and ecological dilemmas posed by overfishing, coastal development, globalized markets, and sporadic regulation. She is most passionate about working with others to develop the Kino Bay Center into a place where people from different cultural, academic, and research backgrounds can enjoy coming together to create innovative strategies for solving complex problems.
