Environmental Studies and Sustainability

The Environmental Studies and Sustainability Department at Prescott College seeks applications from interdisciplinary scholars, educators, and practitioners of natural history and ecology of the Southwest.  Our program has a rich tradition of field-based research and teaching, conservation biology, interpretation of ecological and cultural landscapes, environmental education, and the study and practice of sustainability and agroecology.

The successful candidate must practice student-centered, experiential, field-based, solutions-oriented, interdisciplinary, innovative, engaging, and respectful teaching.  The successful applicant will have the demonstrated ability to teach some of our core courses (e.g., Natural History and Ecology of the Southwest) as well as develop innovative courses and research in the fields of natural history and ecology. In addition, we seek applicants that have background and interest in such areas as, conservation biology; natural resource management; geographic information sciences; climate-related phenomena; environmental policy; physical, biological, and cultural geography; science communication; translational writing and communication skills; and sustainability studies.

Applications should include a letter of interest that outlines the applicant's approach to pedagogy, scholarly agenda, examples of dream courses you would teach at Prescott College, and, of course, a curriculum vitae. In their letters, applicants should make clear how they see their disciplinary training contributing to the interdisciplinary core curricula and the future offerings of one or more departments, deliveries, and degree levels at Prescott College.  Applicants should also include a statement describing how they’ve worked to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in their previous positions -- as graduate students or professors -- and how they plan to continue to do so once at Prescott College. Initial review of applications may begin as soon as the end of November. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.

Please follow the application instructions on the  website.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Prescott College is committed to Equal Opportunity Employment and supports excellence through diversity.   We encourage qualified applicants from historically underrepresented groups along with Veterans and AmeriCorps, Peace Corps and other national service alumni to participate in our recruitment efforts.
