Prescott College’s Tucson Center is the site for the only K-20 campus in Arizona bringing together Mexicayotl Academy, Changemaker High School and Prescott College at one location, on the K20 Changemaker Campus. Together, the three schools are focused on weaving elementary, secondary, and higher education into an all-inclusive model that will create the next generation of bilingual, bicultural, socially and environmentally conscious innovators and leaders. The K-20 partnership includes dual enrollment classes, cross-level, and age-group collaborations.
Prescott College Tucson Center serves as a hub for field work in courses and programs including the Master of Arts in Social Justice & Community Organizing (SJCO), Social Justice Studies, Border Studies, Education, Environmental Justice and Interdisciplinary Studies.
Tucson Center faculty and staff offer students in southern Arizona academic advising, Prescott College courses, admissions support and opportunities for networking with fellow students and community organizations. Undergraduate and graduate courses are held at the center both for the on campus and online programs with the opportunity to engage in fieldwork across southern Arizona and along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Many of the course offerings and opportunities at the Prescott College Tucson Center are centered on social, racial, and environmental justice, focused on themes of decolonizing and reindigenizing education, urban environmental justice, indigenous liberation, Ethnic Studies, border studies, youth organizing, and immigration justice. In our current historical moment of a rapidly changing social, political, and environmental landscape, learning the skills needed to join forces and create change in our communities and the world is especially crucial.
The Tucson Semester is an opportunity for undergraduate students to learn from critical educators, scholars, and activists at the K-20 Changemaker Campus. This semester offers an interdisciplinary learning experience in an urban community, with courses including Decolonial Pedagogy, Urban Environmental Justice, and Critical Literacy for Social Justice.
The K-20 Campus is also home to the PRAXIS Youth Organizing Conference, an annual national convergence for youth ages 12-21 to come together and learn, network, and collaborate on community organizing and social justice issues. Organized by students from Changemaker High School and Prescott College, PRAXIS is uniquely focused on supporting the work of existing young organizers and inspiring new ones to emerge. PRAXIS recognizes the value of the visions of young people across communities in building the world we want to build.
Prescott College Tucson houses Arizona Serve at the Changemaker Campus. Arizona Serve is a program of Prescott College and hosts nearly 200 AmeriCorps members serving with schools and nonprofits across Pima County and Yavapai County. Learn more via the Arizona Serve website.
